Between the metal, cardboard and “poop” taste of food - the choices are dwindling fast and so is the weight!

Any “ah ha” ideas you found on this journey?

Cotton candy - Multi-packs from Sam’s Club. Even when everything else tasted terrible, my husband would eat it. Not the most nutritious food but it had calories. And mango-pineapple smoothies - with just fruit/fruit juice. Xxx Açaí-blueberry Vitamin Water for hydration. Good luck! Now it’s rough but gets better with time.

carlsbad317,

Is it the radiation that is making the food taste so bad? or is he just not feeling well? When my husband was first diagnosed he didn’t want to eat or drink anything, weight was dropping off really quickly. I bought him ensure, and boost the high calorie drinks, and blended the highest calorie ice cream I could find with it. Not the best, but I was trying to keep any weight on him I could. It’s teally hard when nothing tastes good, and they aren’t hungry, and have no energy as well. It’s a constant struggle.

What Dr. did you end up taking your father too?

Praying things get better for him soon. Hope you have a lovely Fathers Day.

He is seeing the one at huntmans cancer institute in salt lake and coordinating with Vegas.

The dr in Salt Lake is Dr. Hu she is from UCLA and is melanoma specialist.

It the whole nine yards that has him down. The Ipi/Nivo side effects have been bad. The diarrhea, no appetite and fatigue mostly. Extreme fatigue and since radiation started and an utter hate for food.

As of today he has to go daily and get an IV of fluids after radiation.

Thank you for sharing your ideas and that you guys experienced it, too.

Berry blend smoothies with banana and other fruits you have lying around; you can also put some superfood mixture in it for energy.

We decided to focus on nutrition more than on calories, cause I figured that if the body is taking a beating, the cells would need good nutritional material to build on. If he accepts it you might try juicing veggies to get more nutrients inside the body.

Hope this fase goes by fast, good vibrations to you and your dad,

Dorothe

Here is what the Mayo Clinic suggests: mayoclinic.org/diseases-con...

May want to talk with the nurse to also keep track of the weight loss. There are some medications that stimulate appetite, and there may be some liquids that can dull the metallic tastes or ease the mouth to tummy track.

I talked with Wayne, and he didn't find anything that helped get past the metallic taste. He had to make himself eat small bits frequently. He still gets a gurgly stomach many months after stopping Yervoy.

Is zofran part of the regimen to help with queasiness?

Peace,

Missy
