Running for Sausages!

Katnap and TailChaser have been taking part in the tempo Events Winter Series of 10k runs with its notorious big hill since before Christmas. With 3 under their belt they are well on the way to completing the series and acquiring their well deserved Event Hoody. For some bizarre reason I decided I would join them for run number 4. I've not completed a 10k since October and I hate running up hills. I also 'Jeff' anything over 5k and that won't work on a up and down course. But anyway there we all were in the sub zero temperatures on the start line this morning.

My plan was quite simple, 'run when you can and walk when you can't'. I was doing quite well for the first 4km, albeit someway off the back of the bunch, then we were on Campden Hill. It is 14 percent and goes on a bit. I did manage to jog along some of the false flats but was surprised, on reaching the top, to find that my legs felt like they belonged to someone else (and not in good way, think Scooby-doo rather than Usain Bolt). Anyway I turned around and headed down, managing to keep going at a reasonably steady pace until I crossed the line some 4kms later.

My time was a not too shabby at 1 hour 18 mins (I did the London Vitality in 1 hour 14 and that was reasonably flat). I am amazed to say I quite enjoyed it!!

Katnap and Tailchaser were all wrapped up in their dry robes at the finished, kindly waiting for my return. I hope they will comment below with stories of their runs.

Now there is no hoody if you don't complete the series but there are a pack of delicious sausages from a local butcher for all that complete the course each month. Guess what we're having for tea?

What a great idea to join the Kats Shakes! Well done completing it and claiming your precious sausages. Definitely worth running up a hill for! Maybe you’ll be tempted into doing the whole Winter Series next year and getting that famous hoodie! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Guess what we’re having for tea too Shakes 😅

I’m so pleased you enjoyed it, and you did brilliantly, especially in the conditions. It looked as if it could be quite treacherous. Thank you for writing this - my NRS post is long enough, without me repeating your post!

Anyway, from my perspective, my legs were tired due to the NRS and the Fordy Run. No surprise really. I also had to choose shoes that had grip rather than my favourite bouncy, speedy shoes that work well with tired legs. Ah well. As it was, I did ok. Officially 1:03:47, so my second fastest of the four this year. A load of us in the same age grade finished at similar times. I’m getting my speed back at last, post marathon, post lurgy 🥳

No clue as to what the colour of the hoody is going to be, that’s still under wraps but I did have to put my size down so I can collect after next months’ run - always an exciting moment!

Thanks for the mention Shake-and-run !I did a couple of these runs last season and ran both non-stop. But this season I've walked 4 or 5 times during the prior 3x runs so very pleased to run the whole distance for today's sausages without any walk breaks!

TailChaser made egg rolls for recovery food. Sausages will be finding their way onto plates this evening!

Non stop up that big stinky hill is some achievement, very impressive. Thanks for the high five as our paths crossed (you coming down, me still going up), really boosted my confidence.

No worries! The marshals were active and encouraging (probably to keep warm)!

Ha ha , another sausage run contender. Well done Shake-and-run , that’s very good considering you haven’t done 10k for such a long time. Especially as it included hills and walking stints. Sausages are far more useful than another T-shirt.

😂😂 you need to train her to be a pacer!

🙂She wouldn’t run anywhere ; she would just look at any people with sausages and they would hand them over……PhD in emotional manipulation!

can you remember the Yorkie on telly that could say “sausages” 😁. Esther Rantzen show or some such 😁🐶.

My husband only accompanies me to races so he can eat stuff. Biddable as long as there’s edible rewards 🙂

🙂 Mrs BC stays well clear of my running! Molly doesn’t need to say anything at the Walkway Cafe….the staff remind me that it is sausage day….and they make a bid on her behalf on other days too. Ganged up on!!

my husband used to run I’m sad that he doesn’t now but at least he drives me to gigs and waits around holding my bag 😁

Dogs are so lovely aren’t they 🥰. I take my borrowed one to the pet shop every week for his pigs ear. I wouldn’t be allowed to miss it. He’d drag me back there 🐕 It’s great in there. Dogs of all kinds, patiently waiting in the queue for treats before heading down the aisles to pick their favoured menu items 🙂
