Confession time

I have just bought myself another pair of my favourite running shoes. For twice the price that I paid for my first pair (and a bit more for shipping). But they're just so comfy and they don't even make a successor model any more. Plus they're plain black so I can use them for run commuting as we go back to the office. Feeling guilty but not guilty. Just had to tell someone who wouldn't think I was crazy...

Anyone else with a confession to share?

I often find that, having identified a product that suits me, it goes out of production and I’m left struggling to find something suitable.

If you’re going for the same model again, it might be worthwhile shopping around early to see if having more time means you can get a better price. There again, if it’s out of production...

I think it (Saucony Liberty) was going out of production when I first bought it so there are very few out there now, and they seem to have stopped making the shoe altogether so no newer models. I did buy a second pair quite early on but they now have about 2000k between them and I'm just not getting on with the Hokas I tried to get as a replacement.

Luckily I'm only a 4.5 even in running shoes so I managed to find a shop that had some over.

Seems that a trip to the running shop will be required so you can try out what's available for your next pair!

I'm dreading the time I have run out of my stock of eBay bargains and have to pay full price to replace the model of shoe I'm currently running in.

I have two more pairs ready for when the current pair (currently on approx 590km) wears out.

That sounds like good forward planning! I wish they'd stop messing around and changing styles all the time!

Ooo I just bought new shoes too and am waiting with excitement and a little guilt as I’m sure looking at my heap of running shoes that I don’t need them quite yet!! will post a picture when they arrive. My last pair were really cheap on ebay but I bought them just as an experiment to see if they would fit and were comfy, they are amazing but now after many miles a bit smooth on the sole and I’m terrified I’ll hit a wet patch and skid over

Enjoy yours they really are a necessity so no guilt needed

I knew posting on here would make me feel better! And it definitely sounds like yours are needed too, we can't have you skidding.

I’ve just cleared my bedroom, which included sorting through running shoes, 1 pair Brooks I run in, £12.80 ebay, 1 pair Asics that i wear to work, 1 pair reeboks that feel really heavy, 1 pair muddy trail shoes that i’ve worn twice, 1 pair Meraki my first pair of proper running shoes that are a bit smooth like the Brooks, 1 pair of black ones that i can no longer see the make, just in case o get really poor I’ve stacked them tidily in the bottom of my wardrobe, 1 pair sketchers over 10 years old o threw away, so have space for new pair, I gave a new pair sketchers to Willows daughter because they are bouncy but don’t feel stable, she loves them, I’ve also got 3 pairs boots each with an extra bit on the heel as left leg is shorter than right, I threw away slippers and found my hand knitted gloves that I wear for running but lost and several odd running socks that i put in the wash, oh and one pair sandels over 10 years old with raised left heel that I used to wear to work in summer before i (yup me) banned open toed sandels at work due to health and safety and infection control. 🤣🤣🤣so I’m feeling good about my shoe situation and can’t wait for the new ones to come

Sounds therapeutic! I think I need a cupboard clearout at some point.

😁😁😁😁. Do you feel better having got that off your chest 😀

Incurable condition, alas. You’ll have to learn to live with it. At least you have a sympathetic ear on here. 👍🙂

I do! Nothing like an understanding ear.

Always need at least minimum two pairs of running shoes to rotate +1. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it 😂. I have loads that I've downgraded from running to walking in (though truth is there are so many pairs I'll not be able wear them out fully.) Then there is the "mistake" buys that I didn't like running in (and I'm a running coach, should know better 🙄).I scour e Bay from time to time, as you can get a bargain from other peoples "mistake" buys, available at a fraction of the new price.

But no need to confess, I'd say we all do it 😊

I have current road and trail shoes, the new not quite right road shoes, my old goretex trail shoes which are still good for light puddles, and then these new ones. Oh, and my original Saucony libertys that with hindsight I think I retired many hundred km too early.

Can I be cheeky and ask how you got into being a running coach? I have vague notions of going into personal training and obviously would be keen to incorporate running.

I got qualifications via UK Athletics, as my running club wanted a coach and I was "it". Its a two stage job, Leader in Running Fitness, which is a 1 day thing covering the basics, then the Coaching course, 4 days spread over a few months. Good quality course, if a bit nerve wrecking. They then insure you to coach, plus can commission you to run coaching courses, such as C25k etc. Plus you can do your own private coaching englandathletics.org/coachi...
