Thanks Roseabi! I’ve got 3 chances to run 10K this week, Wednesday and Saturday in Bognor, then Sunday in Weymouth!πŸπŸ–

It’s my birthdayπŸŽ‚πŸΎπŸ₯‚πŸ₯³ on Saturday so might be a little hungover on Sunday!😟

Please can you sign me up for virtual 10k in the 31/08 - 06/09 week? I am still a bit stuck at 5k but knowing I need to run a 10k in under 3 weeks, I reckon I can build up to that. It's the motivation I need!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Joster

Oops ... I think the 10k is supposed to be the previous week 24th Aug - 30th Aug, and the 10 miler w/c 31st Aug, but let me check with roseabi . Would knowing you need to run a 10k in two weeks be too much?

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Joster

Oh yes, I'm so sorry I got the dates wrong for that one! Have just corrected it to Aug 24th-30th - would that still work for you?

Joster profile image

I’ll have a go! I may make it but it won’t be pretty! πŸ˜‚. Running kit on tomorrow morning then. Pushing on for 6/7km. Please put me down. I need motivation and a target so this could be the way forward. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Hi, This is my Race report for my 10km that I did today :D

I was a bit worried before I went out today because I haven't run that distance for 3 weeks now with one thing and another and after a total disaster on Saturday morning when I got to 1.5km of a 8km planned run and had to walk home in a mega grump because of a niggly calf. I decided to stay fairly close to home and do a couple of laps of the commons, but it went surprisingly ok I think. I had to walk a couple of times past some large family groups with dogs and a little to get my heart rate down a bit so I'm not sure if it'll count towards the virtual 10km but in the end it recorded as 10.06km in a time of 1:09:46 which I'm quite pleased with as it's still so warm plus I forgot to take some water with me doh! but at least my big red sweaty face warned most people like a beacon that I was coming :D

Tried ice cold chocolate milk when I got home and it was lush :D

Good luck and pom pom cheers to everyone doing their 10km this week

Congratulations on your V10K, I know how you feel about staying close to home 'just in case', especially if you have a niggle.

HUHM V10K Race Report

First a confession, I ran my V10K on Sunday as I didn’t know how much time I would have available to complete it this week.

A little more thought went into my route planning, no gates on this run and hardly any elevation, the route follows the river from Bramber down towards Shoreham and the sea.

Arrived nice and early, warm up exercises and stretching in the car park, trying to look like a pro because that’s what serious runners do. All that went out the window when I tried to put my car keys in the pocket of my shorts, they were inside out 🀣, a quick fumble and I’m sorted.

Close to home nearly all my running involves hills or long inclines, I’ve never run 5K let alone 10K on the flat, quickly realised that setting off at (for me) a decent 5K wasn’t going to be sustainable over the whole distance. Adjusted my pace and chuffed that I finished with a PB and an average pace slightly better that my gate wrestling V5K.

Things I leant: try to match pace to distance and terrain. I missed the variety of my normal up and down routes. Put shorts on the right way! πŸ˜‰

Did mine this morning roseabi ! It was more akin to a squelchfest as it rained for the entirety of my 10k and the puddles were back in earnest, as well as some mud slicks! So not quick, certainly not pretty, but a whole ton of fun at 1:20:20! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¦πŸ’¨πŸΎ

Forgot to mention my 10k on Monday. A bit boring to be honest as it was a slowly slowly recovery trail run. But they all count. It’s about time I tried a speedier 10k mind, so I’ll try a fast one next week. Never know, I might get a new PB like last weeks 5k. πŸ€”πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜€ Good luck to you fellow 10kers this week and next. πŸ‘

10k done - very short run report

It was very hot, I was very tired and sweaty. Not my best time by any stretch of the imagination however I’m feeling chuffed with myself as I nearly quit at 3k but managed to dig in and finish it 😊

Hi

This is my race report for my virtual 10k, run yesterday Sat 22 Aug.

Supermarket weekly shop fail meant NO jelly babies ... was this an omen for the run ?!! 😰 Nerves abounded, would I muck up? (if I can muck up then I probs will), would there be a meds "episode"? (my big fear), would a huge purple worm .. ? (oh hang on, that was the dream on Friday night after too much chicken saag)

I had secretly wanted to do the 10k on Thursday but ended up running too fast to be able to sustain the pace (see! if I can muck up then ..)

The idiot wind of Friday had moderated overnight however and it was almost perfect conditions when setting out, not too hot, good breeze. Took a gel instead of raisins / jelly babies.

My usual thing is just to set off and "feel" my way into running (at the beginning my stride feels "lumpy" and uneven) and I'm rubbish at judging pace. Anyways, at the 1K mark the time was about 40 seconds slower than Thursday for what felt like equivalent effort. This is usually what signals an "episode" and, yes, the chills and whatnots came in soon after 1K but thankfully it was at the milder end and it was possible to keep the slower pace going. The next 2-3k were just about keeping going with the prospect of long downhill section on the lovely smooth new ringroad cycle/walk path. Made it to there and was able to relax into a lovely 2k downhill stretch, head up, admiring the last of the summer wildflowers and playing Yellow Car (score of three by this point).

A climb up Park Lane and then into Roundhay Park by the old stables then looping round the mansion. At this point (about 8k in now) the weather went crazy with heavy, heavy rain. It drove everyone in the park to seek shelter so a lap of the upper lake was blissfully clear of other park users.

Very pleased with the running gear at this point, even though completely soaked in a short time there was no discomfort. So kept going, and although the path through the wood was slow and treacherous made it to 9k and then 10 (yay).

Mindful of HM training plan, the run target for the day was 12k, so kept going, had to ford an impromptu stream (still raining really hard) and back-streeted my way home. Slow time for me by recent comparisons but really happy at being on the road again and getting to 12k (longest yet) and getting through an epi. Time over 12k was 1:24:46 and over 10k was 1:10:57. Hot shower followed by scrambled eggs and tomato πŸ˜‹

I would post a photo of the Himalayan Balsam on the ring road but can't find out how to do this in a reply

(Yellow Car score: 6, Bob Dylan song references in post: 2)
