Focus on the Journey.

Last night after work I set out to run 10 miles if I could. I'd felt great recently after coming off a few weeks away with recent knee problems. I've spent lots of weeks with my foam roller and stretching and strengthening exercises, and had been building back up. Gosh last night though! I know it was hot but wow!! I was well hydrated and felt so strong the first few miles but after 4 I felt drained. I pushed on to 7 but knew I'd left it all out there. As I walked home I knew I'd come again and that to be disappointed with 7 is really a positive thing. Running is most definitely a journey.

I’d say 7 miles was definitely a win, no disappointment needed there. 👏👏 It’s always so much harder running in the heat, so I think your run was fabulous. 🎉

Thank you. Appreciate it.

Isn't it amazing how we can become disappointed with "only" running distances that, not that long ago, we wouldn't even have dreamed of ever being able to run?

in reply to sTrongFuse

Very true. I'll take it and come back for more!!

When something like this happens to me I add a note on Strava to say something like: Hot! 11 km in the bag, and I was roasting!! And by the way, did I mention it was hot??? Whew!!!! 😁

In seriousness though, well done, and you are so right - running is a journey with many ups and downs!! And I don't think I said yet - Hi there! Welcome to the Marathon community 😊😊😊

in reply to roseabi

Me too. I put 'hot and tired' on mine. Thank you for the welcome.

It sure is 👍. There’s always the next run 🙂

It was 20 degrees when I ran yesterday evening. It’s energy-sapping so don’t be hard on yourself.

Thank you. We go again!!

I see you’re a GTFC fan! Been there a few times ! It’s usually interesting when we meet 😁. Usually some handbags in the car park after, if not in the ground 👜

I enjoy Lincoln too. Happy days ⚽️

Do you run the Cleethorpes prom races in September ? I ran it last year. Loved it! Free ice cream, free coffee, lovely medal 👍.

There’s also the amazing Maravan weekend in November. I’ll be there again hopefully 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

Ooooh an Imp fan!! Yes, my son and I have a season ticket and go home and away every week and have done so for about 15 years now. Absolutely love it. I'm fairly new to running (started in Nov19) so haven't been in any runs like those. I normally just run on my own. Good luck to you though and I hope some of the events come up that you can enjoy again 😁

I think you did really well in this temperature. I hate running in the heat whereas mrrun loves it. We’re all different....

in reply to Irishprincess

Thank you. We are and that is what makes this forum great!

I. Am. In. My. Element. 😀😀😀 Ran 16km today as part of my overall 80km per week over 5 days and the forecast for next week is simply great - thank you Lord!

However, don't worry - l am well prepared, rested, hydrated, still wearing basketball gear, stretching daily and religiously. 😎👍 I love winter running as well but nothing, nothing beats this, and it's not even summer. In my element indeed! 🤪

Running in heat has a lot to answer for. This time last year I really struggled with runs in the sun where as now it seems to be getting better.

I think we need not to be so hard on ourselves when we don't hit a target. Like you say you ran 7 miles and I say that's very positive. Could we have even imagined running these distances when we started out. 😊😊

in reply to Buddy34

Very, very true. Thank you. If it wasn't challenging then runs like our HM or ten miles wouldn't feel the same when we achieve them.

In the winter time I dream for warm weather runs then the heat of summer comes and I start dreaming of bundling up for a nice winter run😂. Running in the heat is tough, especially after a day of work I find.

7 miles is a great run especially with your recent knee issues and that heat. The 10 miler I still out there for you to smash, but it won't be long before you do just that.

in reply to SaskAlliecat

Thank you! I prefer the rain and cold but this will help me get stronger and I can get back to longer distances once again. I hope you are both keeping well up there.

I'm just truckin' along, taking it one day at a time. It looks like today's run for me will be rainy and very windy and cool. I am glad it is my shortish run. I also have a 10 miler to do this week and another short run, so I will try to work around the wind and rain to decide which run day gets which run. I guess Spring has sprung here 🤷‍♀️

Definitely! 7 miles today is a big achievement, to do it post knee trouble is worthy of celebration in my book 😀
