Yes RunaroundSue, I have been called Santa a few times.

You will be ready for any emergency call for a Santa Dash :)

AlMorr profile image

I was a spectator at my local Santa Dash last December,(by the way the day before I ran at parkrun 30.56) if I had taken part I would'nt have needed a false beard that most of the other runners including women had, my grandchildren love my beard but have never called me Santa. 😊

Thanks roseabi, o by the way I 🚴 CYCLED. 21 Kilometres this morning, interesting regarding calories, 463 this morning compared with 767 calories when I RAN 10K last Wednesday.

Running takes much more effort, generally speaking 😊😊😊❤

Indeed, if I had ran 21K this morning, apart from being absolutely knackered, I would have burnt 1000+ calories.

This is the future!!

Love that GTFC, on that beard survey, more than a quarter of runner's had a beard, the last official Parkrun I was at there were many men who had beards, a few thicker than mine, do you or are you thinking of growing a beard?

in reply to AlMorr

Oh not for me thank you. But I'm an admirer of them and yours as we say in Essex is a belter!!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to

Yes, a belter of a beard for me. when I do trim it I won't trim it down as much as the last time when it was trimmed from 8 to 3 inches, perhaps from 8 or 9 inches to 5.

AlMorr profile image

PS GTFC, I remember about 2 or 3 years ago sitting on a seat in St Andrews Scotland looking out to sea when two American women stopped walking past me and told me in an American English accent "that is a fantastic beard you have could I take a photo of you" so I let them take the photo with their Smartphone, so somewhere in the USA I have a couple of women admirers who love my beard. 😊

I shave every other day but do like beards. I like to be smooth.

That’s amazing Alan.💥

Hence the complimentary descriptions.

Gan on yer sel.⭐️

Very fearful of these clippers coming now.🙈🤣

AlMorr profile image

O I remember that "gan on yer sel" on my graduation run at Helensburgh on 18th April 2018, I will never forget that, I did have a beard that day, from time to time I do trim it down a little, however, I won't trim it at all until the lockdown is over, at my last official Parkrun on 14th March I wasn't the only man who had a beard.

HeavyFoot profile image
HeavyFootHalf Marathon

Is this a lockdown look or habitual ? Fine beard either way. 😀

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to HeavyFoot

Yip, that's my lockdown beard, I won't trim it down until the lockdown is over, I have been growing a beard now for 5 years, if I had not trimmed it at all during that time, who knows how long it would be now, the photo shows it at the equivalent of not shaving for 7 months, however, I did trim it down to a inch at the start of December last year..

PS, I hope you have not had any problems with anything after your wonderful achievement yesterday, this morning I cycled 🚲 21K round the route I ran my 5th 10K last Wednesday, 5 times round Broadwood Loch ending at exactly the same place as Cumbernauld 10K and the Santa Dash 5K end, it was a bit strange, I imagined all those people cheering me on the last 50 metres, alas, there was no one there at all, the reason I cycled 21K was to let me know that IF and its a big IF I ever run 21K I know now how many times I would have to run round the loch and where it would end, cycling 21K isn't just as tiring as running 21K, nevertheless my legs feel the same as they felt last Wednesday when I ran my 5th 10K, this Wednesday I intend to run 6K and maybe a week on Wednesday I may run 11k.

in reply to AlMorr

I honestly want to be as fit and active as you are at 73. Buddy completed a brilliant run to get her HM and really deserved her achievement. To even think about that far blows my mind. I'm just so pleased she did it.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to

We are all so pleased with Buddies achievement yesterday, I told her that there have been only 3 people in all the time that I have been on this forum who have had 100+ congratulations on graduating either from any of those distances, the other two were ButtercupKid and a man named Sallenson who got a 100+ congratulations from graduating from C25K, I got about 70.

I would feel at my age there would be a risk of injury if I pushed my distance over 10K, I could week by week increase by 1K running slowly and see how far I can get regarding distance maybe 16K, maybe 21K, I'll see how it goes. 😊 🏃🏾

in reply to AlMorr

That sounds the prudent thing to do and leaves you in control. Yes, I think this is the way to go and I do feel you will edge closer to your desired goal. By doing it the way you are thinking you give yourself the very best possible chance. However far you do get will be a tremendous achievement to add to your list!

Love that lockdown look AlMorr. You must take a final photo before the post lockdown trim.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to Dexy5

I wasn't sure if the administrators would allow that photograph to be on this site and delete it, but Roseabi asked me to post a photo when I said that I had comments about it such as 'epic' and 'killer beard' it grows about half a inch a month, the last measurement was nearly 6 inches, I got it to go 8 inches a few years ago after 10 months of not even trimming, I was actually getting a bit embarrassed on how long it was growing without any sign of slowing down, so if you like it that's fine with me. I have asked our friend Tbae to grow a beard but I don't think he will, I wonder if UTS has ever grown one or perhaps you don't allow him to grow a beard, by the way I went on a 21K cycle 🚴 ride this morning.

lexi6 profile image

That is one very impressive beard Alan and well done on your cycle ride this morning. 👍

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to lexi6

I am happy that you are 'very impressed'

with my beard, I am very impressed that I can grow it as well. .

I did enjoy my cycling yesterday, I suppose that it is too soon yet to know when parkruns are going to start again in New Zealand, could be the first country in the world for them to restart whereas the 🇬🇧 UK and USA could be the last.

Lockdown has eased and the children went back to school yesterday as you probably know, our PM doesn’t say when we might move down to Level 1, so I think parkruns are a long way off still Alan 😕 the number of people allowed at gatherings increasing from 10 to 100 will be reviewed soon🤞and no new cases of Covid reported today, so feeling a lot more optimistic. 😊

Running has become a little mundane since lockdown started so going back to parkrun will be lovely to socialise. Again, just a brilliant beard Alan.

I'm impressed Al! :)

In 2002 I, for the first and last time, grew a full beard and 'tash.

I was going somewhere it was deemed best that "don't be recognisable"

So a few weeks enduring the itchy scratchy process...and by some quirk of genetics, I had a RED beard.

My hair started going white when I was 17, before that it had gone from blond to fair and nobody ever could think of any redhead in our lineage....except one....about 500 years ago lol.

Anyway, off it came - not much difference between being "spotted" and sticking out like a beacon lol, and never again :)

But - that is one heck of a beard there, a spectacular look :)

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to Irish-John

I am glad that you like my ".spectacular look" John, since 2015 I have only shaved it off completely twice, the last time being December 2016, however, I have trimmed it down, usually twice a year just to tidy it up a little.

So you had a red beard when you grew one just for a short while, you could be an ancestor of King Hendry the 8th, he had red beard 500 years ago.

You are now training for a marathon later in the year, that is if it takes place, good luck for that. 😊 🏃🏾

The family was traced back to those times Al, and there certainly was a connection with Henry but it was by marriage :) I watched "The Tudors" series a while back and it was kind of strange to watch someone play a "relative" :)

While fun, interesting and often based on affection or respect - I personally have never understood the idea that someone's present day merit and character is enhanced or degraded because of a famous or infamous ancestor. Hitler's three half-hour Great Nephews for instance were genuinely good and decent men, and the offspring of saints can often be devil's. Like I say though - it's fun and it got my daughter and I a "Behind the Scenes" tour of Windsor a few years ago. The bizarre part of that was, the lady assigned to show us around was related to Florence Nightingale - and in my book, Florence was a far more valuable person to society than any of our lot 😂

I love beards and that is a corker AlMorr!

OH sports a beard, and in our 42 years of marriage he has only shaved it off once. (I got home from work and thought he was a burglar so made him promise never to do that again.)

But he does need to keep his trimmed more than that as he is a chef and that would not go down well in the kitchen....

I will show him your picture and he will be so envious.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to BarbieW

That's a new one on me BarbieW, a "corker" of a beard, those adjectives for my beard are getting more by the day, corker is the latest, your OH having a beard and being a chef means that he will have to keep his beard trimmed down to about an inch or two at the most, can't have small hairs getting into food. I hate my beard the day I trim it down, it tends to itch a bit, however, if I only trim it down a little it won't itch.
