This week ends with my birthday, so grab yourself a piece of cake on me and let us know how you're doing!

I’m heartily sick of the wind and the rain and the mud (though at least we haven't had snow). The Bath Half Marathon team have gone so far as to write a blog on how to weather the weather if it's getting in the way of training for Bathalf on 15th March πŸ˜‚.

As of this morning I seem to have been struck with a very painful bruised-feeling heel, so no running for me this week - maybe I can force myself to cycle in the rain instead.

How about you? How are you coping? Still getting out for your runs?

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Don't forget, if you have an event coming up this coming month (or any changes to one you've mentioned before) let us know in the sticky post! πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

Happy running everyone!

I know exactly how you feel, I am also tired of wind, rain and mud! I'm glad we haven't had snow and I cannot wait for the better weather to come in spring! I'm still managing to get out on my runs though! Such a shame you have to take a week off running, hope your heel gets better soon! πŸ˜ƒ

You're definitely not letting the weather win though and that's what counts. I'll take a week off without conplaint, but it's SO painful that I'm a bit worried it won't heal before Bath 🀞

Yep, sometimes we have to do.what we have to do despite the weather. I'm sorry to hear that it's so painful, let's hope it heals up before Bath Half!

Mornin πŸ˜ƒ. Birthday greetings πŸ‘πŸ₯³πŸ°

I have no cake ☹️ Only a double espresso as I’m headed out for the long schlepp to my son’s. I always walk as there’s never anywhere to park

Run training going ok. Bit achey today as I ran subsequent days. A long walk should iron out any kinks.

Fed up of road running but the trails are off limits at the mo due to the weather Getting back to them will be so sweet πŸ‘ŒπŸ™‚.

No cake? Calamity! I can't wait to get off the roads too! I'm too much of a wimp to run through mud and jump over puddles, but it must be bad your way to have put you off (you're made of much tougher stuff than me 😍).

Happy birthday for the weekendπŸŽ‚

I've managed a 14k and 5k this week and a couple of classes at the gym (one with the dreaded foam roller!)

The Chester 10k will be my first ever race on 8th March, so I'm hoping to do another 2 runs this week in preparation.

I was looking at the race route last night and nearly fainted when I saw the elevation gain -" I'll never do that " I thought in a panic. I finally realised the elevation gain was measured in feet, not metres, so thankfully it's not as steep as I feared. Have a good week πŸ˜ŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€Έβ€β™‚οΈ

linda9389 profile image

Oh my - I've been caught out by elevations in feet before now, very scary! With those distances under your belt you should smash the Chester 10K, I hope you enjoy every minute of it and, remember, we do like reading race reports in this forum 😍

Happy birthday later on this week! I'll be baking a birthday cake for hubby's birthday tomorrow.

I had a great week on the Isle of Wight last week, and managed to fit in lots of running. It's such an inspiring place. I actually woke up at 6:30 every morning, so that I could be out of the apartment in time for a sunrise run or walk by the beach.

The winds were pretty tough over there, so this morning's 12 km run in lighter winds here in Oslo wasn't too bad. I'm still behind in my LLHM training, but my running is definitely top priority from now on.

Cantstopmenow profile image
CantstopmenowHalf Marathon in reply to C3PO

Sounds like you had a lovely time, despite the wind. I'm behind in my hm training too, but, will keep going at my own pace 😊

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to C3PO

Wow, 6.30 every morning despite the rotten weather we've been having - kudos to you! I'm fairly sure everyone from the UK running at LLHM will currently be behind on their schedule, you may be in very good company. I'm waiting to find out what my volunteer role will be - almost as exciting as running it 😍

OOOh!!!!! Happy nearly-Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to be at the Mother-in-Law's this weekend, so there will be a good chance of cake πŸ˜‹

Recovering from my virus and Brighton Half Marathon ordeal this week. Not quite so sore today but still extremely hungry!

The HM was tough with the gales, but at least the rain mostly held off! I failed to finish in under 2 hours (first time in years! And only 47 seconds over - curses!!) so I was a bit annoyed at first, but basically I think I did good 😊😊😊

This will be a bit of a life-getting-in-the-way-of-running sort of week, which is a good excuse to rest I suppose!

Happy running all - speedy heel-healing Linda xxx

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to roseabi

Recovery, rain, and life have at least all conspired to meet in the same week! Sounds like you might as well eat cake πŸ˜‚. It must be very easy to account for those 47 seconds (and more) on the basis of the weather on Sunday. It would mess with my head even before the start line. I'm sure it's frustrating after all the training - but it's the weather and virus that are at fault, not your running!

This weather is abysmal, so much so that I hit the treadmill again yesterday. I’m due for a long run tomorrow, and I *think* it’s supposed to be ok, so we’ll see. 🀞🀞

The fly in my ointment isn’t running related though. I was supposed to be going on holiday with my 2 daughters and grandson to Tenerife next week. Well first the sandstorm - and now coronavirus has hit one of the hotels near to ours and there’s lockdown. 😷 We can’t risk it with a little baby, so it looks like I’ll be running in the wind and rain next week. I also have a trip to Venice planned with friends in May ........ 😩😩😩

Still, at least I have my HM to look forward to in 2 1/2 weeks time. πŸ‘

linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to cheekychipmunks

Ahh no, how disapointing for you all. One of my boys is supposed to be going to Milan next weekend - not sure how much of Milan will be open though! I'm going with Bath HM being 3 weeks off still - gives a bit longer to sort my foot out 😍. Tomorrow does look better - run for me please while you're out there πŸ˜‚

cheekychipmunks profile image

Such a shame linda9389 , but it has to be the right decision, even though I keep wondering if I’m overreacting. The baby has swung it for me though. Way too precious to risk. πŸ’™ Plus selfishly I was imagining being quarantined in our hotel if we had gone ahead. I’d have missed the Bath Half ........ 😳😱😳

Ok we’ll say 3 weeks to go then! Under 3 weeks gives me massive butterflies! πŸ¦‹ Are you concerned about your foot? I’ll send you some healing vibes .......... πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈβ€οΈ This is a bumpy road for us all isn’t it? We need to have a blast on the day - and we will! πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

You’re right IP, my little grandson is more important than a week in the sun, and once this has all died down we’ll go somewhere else. In the meantime I’ll be trotting around in the wind and rain muttering under my breath and trying not to think of what might have been! πŸ™„πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Looking forward to the Bath Half even more now. Somehow the holiday was the buffer between now and then and it was keeping the πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹πŸ¦‹ at bay. I have them now though! How’s the knee feeling now? 🀞🀞🀞

Thanks JonathanP , disappointing indeed, but simply not worth the risk. Our little grandson is robust and I’m sure we’d be totally fine - but imagine if we weren’t, or if we were quarantined in our hotel? πŸ‘Ž

I’m going to sit down with my daughters and amend the flights to go somewhere else later in the year - there will be a fee, but I’d rather pay that than waste the money already spent. ✈️

Beachcomber66 profile image

Some things cannot be risked cheeky and little babies are at the top of the list! I whatsapp'd the news to my sister who was travelling to the airport to fly out to Tenerife yesterday. They usually stay at the resort which has been affected, but luckily they were too late to book, so they are staying elsewhere on the island. Some people are taking it a bit far though; friends of ours have just flown home from Japan; they have been nowhere near the area where the cruise ship was quarantined, but people are refusing to meet up with them!

So, a white legged Spring it is! At least I am back running, Ieven did a 4k with some speed injected yesterday (not much speed though!); time to get the old legs moving properly again.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksHalf Marathon in reply to Beachcomber66

Gosh that is taking it a bit far isn’t it BC? Your poor friends! πŸ™„ Hope your sister and family have a wonderful time. I’m wonder how it would have worked if they’d have been staying in the affected hotel - would they even be allowed to check in? πŸ€”

You’re right of course, it’s not worth the risk with the baby. He’s a robust little soul, but he’s only 5 1/2 months old and it would be unforgivable of me to knowingly put him and my daughters in potential harm’s way. Chances are we’d be fine, but we don’t know for sure.

So yes, running with white legs it’ll have to be (oh, and they’re WHITE!) We’ll go somewhere later in the year when (hopefully) this flipping virus is under control. I’m willing to pay the fee to amend the flights, as I hate the thought of wasting the money already spent! We’ll sit down later and pick somewhere remote! ✈️

We are supposed to be going to Canada and on to Hawaii in July, with our Canadian resident daughter and a friend. I think that I just have to take a risk and book it, otherwise we might lose the chance of seeing them. There is no telling where this will end up; fear, as much as reality, will be a big factor.x

Ouch I hope that feels better soon....

I am a bit off this week as I have foot pain which I am hoping will go with the usual RICE etc... so I am doing zone 2 runs to keep it gentle all week.I am trying hard to fit in more weights work but finding it a struggle. I had every intention last night when I got home from work, but the house was a tip, and I had a chicken to cook, by which time, after eating it was 8.30 and that is half an hour before my bedtime. So it was a no no. Onwards and upwards tho...

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY :)

We just had a snow warning for Wednesday. Hopefully it will be dry. There's a lot to be said for just turning up to enjoy the race and the day, we should all try that once in a while πŸ‘. Hopefully any snow you do get will be of the easy to run on variety - if there is such a thing. Screws at the ready? 😍. Good luck!

Oh no Linda! Not what you need! You with heel pain, me with knee pain πŸ™„ I have actually searched if I can walk the Bathhalf and apparently you can as long as it’s within 4 hours. I’m keeping this up my sleeve.

I still haven’t tried a run since Friday, just resting and doing all the usual. It does seem a lot better but I’ve been kneeling (in the garden) and doing weights in the gym and I can still feel it niggling 😑 but I think I’m a bit paranoid now and feeling everything as bad.

If it feels ok tomorrow I might go for a short jogette to test the waters.

I hope your heel pain goes away asap. Thanks for the cake πŸ˜‹ and a very Happy Birthday πŸŽ‰πŸŽˆπŸΎπŸ₯‚ to you x

Sadly we have had snow up here which has meant me not getting out since Wednesday. I'm fairly indifferent to inclement weather, but having snow, sleet and hail driven horizontally into your face by storm force winds is a step further than I'm prepared to go. All of my local parkruns on Saturday were off as they were deemed unsafe, either through parts of the course being flooded, or as a result of fallen trees.

Pretty fair to say that after my exploits in January, February has been a pretty quite month on the running front.

It's dry just now, I'm just hoping it stays that way until I've finished work.

It is Tasha99 's 100th Park Run too....although the forecast is for torrential rain, snow and gales! Not really promising. On the up side, I completed the 22nd K of my comeback yesterday. Not a great start to the week for me (hormones! I'll say no more!) and first sign of a cold (annoying) but hope to run tomorrow and then again at the weekend as usual. Like many others, getting a bit bored of all the rain, with the rest of the week not looking particularly great!

I need to find time this week I think, to start properly planning my build up towards RunGatwick HM in May. I am thinking that there is plenty of time to include drop back weeks in training and also hopefully a chance to run the full distance over the Easter hols too. I feel as though I am already crossing my fingers in the hope of avoiding injury and illness etc etc - but all we can do is plan and hope that life doesn't throw a curve ball, I guess!🀞🀞
