Well, I am having a terrible running time as it turns out doing a half marathon with a migraine means said migraine then refuses to leave you alone for A WHOLE FORTNIGHT. Aaaaaargh! A doctor visit and a fancy new prescription means new hope however, so this week I'm raring to go!

I hope you are all having a more successful running time than me! I'm super sad that I got relegated to the couch as I know all my favourite autumnal flora will be out. Not just the lovely leaves, but also the brambles (yum!) and teasels and honesty (pictured), which I have a habit of gathering and trying to take home with me...with limited success.

πŸ’‘This week we are trying something new! πŸ’‘

Do you have any events this weekend that you'd like to be added to the pompom post? If so, let us know below! πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡ Yes, even if you've already added them to the diary--we are trying to make sure we keep the events posts super current and manageable, and to make sure everyone gets a cheer that needs one!

And of course we want to hear all your lovely regular chat too! Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Happy running!

It was fine all summer, now it's niggling on and off. It's never really been right since early this year - well, it's never been right since my road traffic accident in 1966, but it's been liveable since i started running again.

I had to cancel my Oxford Half entry for this Sunday 😒

..... but, on a more positive note I do hope to be doing C25K W5R3 on Saturday - remember that one, the solid 20 mins running that most of us dreaded? Well, I can't bl@@dy wait 😍. My first few runs since the all clear have been full of joy and my world is a much happier place for it βœ”

Enjoyed reading everyone's HM and marathon reports this weekend, and (hopefully with 20 minutes under my belt) I look forward to reading about this weekends ones even though mine is cancelled. Good luck everyone - especially if it's your first.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to linda9389

I thought at first that the Oxford Half had been cancelled, Flick is running in that half marathon, NO, it's just you that sadly cannot go to it, sorry about that, personally I prefer running for 20 minutes, not 2 hours 20 minutes or more in a half marathon, enjoy rerunning run 3 of week 5 of C25K, you won't be as nervous as you were before running it the first time.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to AlMorr

You're so right - it's C25K without the fear :)

linda9389 profile image

I've edited my post so hopefully it reads better now!

in reply to AlMorr

2hrs 20 minutes? I wish!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to

Is that the time you hope to run it, if there is a 2 hour 30 minute pacer, that would be a big help to you Flick, anyway, time doesn't matter too much, as long as you enjoy the run, irrespective of the time it takes, that is the main thing. 😊 πŸƒπŸΎ

in reply to AlMorr

Crikey no, especially not with my knee playing up. I was responding to you stating that time above. I doubt if I will get round in three hours, probably a lot longer.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to

This morning I went for my mid week run, no, it wasn't another 10K, just a 5K, my time was 33.21, a lot puddles about, slowed me down a bit, as you probably have gathered, I have settled down to go for two, rather than three runs a week, parkrun every other Saturday, the non parkrun Saturday I usually go for one of the longer runs with Laura on the C25K app, on a Wednesday it varies in distance, what I intend to do on a Wednesday is by using my metromone app, run a 5K, this morning with that 33.21 time I set it at 172 steps/beats a minute, next Wednesday I will set it at 176 and see what my time will be at the finnish, I do think that app helps me with my cadence. 😊 πŸƒπŸΎ

Three hours is OK for you this Sunday, I just hope that your knee won't play up and spoil your run.

in reply to AlMorr

Strangely I go faster on my little treadmill 32mins 39secs or thereabouts for 5k. I’m also slower since injuring my bad knee earlier in the year. You’re going great guns. Much better cadence than mine, which has also slipped this year

Plotting my next move re: a full marathon now I know I’m not in for London. Big? Small? Trail? I should probably just keep up the longish runs and not overthink it... places just seem to go so quickly.

And yes, it was really inspiring seeing everyone’s HM reports from this weekend. Well done all, especially if I missed your run.

Lordy! Running with a migraine is just crazy talk!! I tried a 5k with one and my eyesight went screwy and I couldn’t see to find my way home to my bed! Not sure if it was brave or nuts but I hope you’re feeling better now.πŸ€•πŸ˜Š

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatHalf Marathon

Yikes! Can’t imagine running a HM with a migraine then having it persist for as long as it has! I sure hope these new meds work for you!

No event for me this weekend, just trying to fit some form of running in but have been fairly unsuccessful. We’ve been shifting rooms around with my 12 year old moving his bedroom to the basement, turning my old office in the basement into his music room and moving my office upstairs to his old bedroom. Our house was in a state of chaos but we’ve decluttered and are getting there! My right ankle has been super tight so I’ve been working on stretching it out and am hoping to get back on track with some running soon. In the meantime, I really need to do some strength training, especially in my hips and glutes that seems to be creating a few niggles as my distance has increased and the imbalance showing up more. I should probably buy some different road shoes because the ones I bought last year aren’t right for me but it feels like we are bleeding money right now, so it will need to wait for now. I’m sure I’ll be donning my trail shoes again soon to deal with snow and ice anyways.

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to SaskAlliecat

Hope your ankle eases up soon Sask and you are able to get out on the snowy trails

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatHalf Marathon in reply to Decker

Thanks Decker. Our snow has melted (for now) so hubby and I ran a short, muddy hill repeat run last week in the coulee in front of our house. It was tough and I really need to just get out for a nice easy run one of these days and test the ankle. It is so tight though so have been doing nightly stretches the last few nights. I'm thinking I'll be keeping the distance short for now. On the exciting front though, we booked our hotel for our Banff HM next June. Not cheap but should be fun!

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to SaskAlliecat

Probably wise to keep the distance down until the ankle is sorted. Good that you can at least get outside to run a little. That Banff race is going to be epic as the kids say!!

I used to suffer migraines so I know what that’s like. Cannot believe you could run with one, though! Hope it’s nothing serious.

Not much to report here. Have a short run tomorrow at 6am but my trainers are still drying out from yesterday’s puddle-athon. Hoping they are totally dry before I get them totally soaked again...

yikes, a 2 week migrane sounds absolutely horrendous - so sorry you have to deal with that

I did my breast cancer 10k, in a time of 1h32 (chip time came through). I'm ok with the time, my only goal was to run it all - if I can maintain that pace for 21.1k I'm nearly at 3 hour HM pace - now to get serious about training up the hills on trails to strengthen my legs more. I sort of have a plan of interval type things once a week (Tuesday), hills and trails 5K on a Saturday morning but without pushing, and my long comfortable run on Sundays. If I can fit a slightly faster 5K in on a Thursday then that's my plan through to my HM.

It should also cover my 13K trail race for which I have 2.5 hours to finish

Time to get a bit more serious about training I feel rather than just winging a long run every Sunday and fitting in a couple of other non-specific runs during the week.

Going shopping for trail shoes cos even my normal riverside route is getting muddy - after reading a lot online and taking price into account (which unfortunately is an issue) I am leaning towards inov8 parkclaw, but I will try them on before buying :D

I'm looking for a 16k-ish even for January or early February to prepare for the HM on 1st March (I did 7k, 10k, I have 13k planned and if I can find a 16k for Jan or Feb it will keep me gradually stepping up event distances)

Hello Sqkr , Decker and Roseabi, UpTheStanley and I are intending to run the last long run before the GSR tomorrow . I have only run as far as 6k since my 10 mile on 18 September so I'd like to get to 11 or 12k. Then we hope meet up with cheekychipmunks and @damienair at Eastville parkrun on Saturday.

After that it will be taper for the big day. Eek.

I am in taper now. Of course I mis judged my weeks and had one too many training weeks left in my plan, so had to strip a week out and cut my mileage down since there is less than two weeks to go now. 😳Had a nice easy pace long run to Graffitti alley in TO last week. Now its just a few 5s and a 13k to go. I’m already stressing about the low mileage taper. Easy to say, harder to do. 😁

A 2 week migraine is nuts! I can't image that let alone running with one! Hope you're feeling better.

HM this Sat 12 Oct for me. Drizzle and 10 degrees forecast so should be good conditions ( I like cool running weather). Hoping to shave a few mins off my PB to get closer to the 2hr mark. As luck would have it I found that a couple of accomplished runners from my workplace are also running in the event as a "joggy" "chatathon" (for them) :-) and are likely to cruise round at about the 2hr mark, so I'll try to stay with them and the 2hr bunny (without the chatting bit of course) :-)
