Just booked my first half marathon

It’s not till next August, in Ayr, so I have plenty of time to get ready. I’m doing a 5k training plan just now for the Kelpies Supernova in November. Then I hope to do an 8-week 10k plan for Buchlyvie 10k in January: that will be my second official 10k race as I did one in August. After that a wee rest then a harder 12 week 10k plan with hills before the hilly EMF 10k in May. And then I thought I’d do the Canadian HM plan that someone posted here as it looks a very good fit for me: it’s also a 12week plan and I have 14 weeks after EMF so a week’s rest after the 10k and another week off for my summer holiday.

Sounds easy if you say it quickly ...

A man with a plan ! Sounds great 👍😃🏃‍♂️🌪🏅

Having some races to train for keeps you going through winter ❄️ 🥶💪🏃‍♂️

That’s what I’m hoping for, a bit of structure through the winter months.

Having a focus over the cold dark winter runs definitely helps!

Good for you Arthur, great plan, plenty of time to prepare for your first Half marathon in Ayr next August, as well as those above mentioned runs, you might get a little practice at Drumpelliier Parkrun, you told me that was near to where you used to live. 😊 🏃🏾

Yes I grew up in Coatbridge and still have family there but I live in Arbroath now so my home parkrun is Montrose. I may use the parkruns at Camperdown (near here) or Tollcross (near Coatbridge) for practice on hills nearer the time. I’ll be doing a fair amount of parkrun tourism anyway as I’ve organised one per month for my running club. We went to Lochore Meadows in Fife last month - lovely, lovely place to run. This month it’ll be Hazelhead in Aberdeen.

Could try Dunfermline, they have their one hundredth parkrun on Saturday 2nd November.

I’m volunteering at Montrose that day but I hope it goes well 👍

😀 I do try to choose training plans that leave some space for real life too 😊 It’s why I don’t think I’ll do a marathon though, everything I hear says your whole life revolves around it for months.

It’s actually planned around events that fall on Saturdays because most are on a Sunday morning when I have other duties 🤣

haha, I'm hte other way, I plan around Sunday events because most here required you to pick your bib up in advance and I have to do that on Saturdays for the event on the Sunday :D

I did the Supernova last year too and really enjoyed it which is why I’m going back. I’m doing the Sunday one as it’s earlier in the evening and I can get home by a civilised bedtime!

I would love to do it myself - bit far to travel though!

They have them in London and Bournemouth as well. Not sure how they compare though. A wee bit special with the Kelpies illuminated. They Can change the colours but they light them up all in red on the Sunday because it coincides with Remembrance Sunday.

The Kelpies are the reason I want to do it 😊
