Today was going to be the day I tried again to get to 14k. Woke up to torrential rain, so thought Iโ€™d have some breakfast for a change and hope the weather perked up a bit. By midday the rain had turned to gentle drizzle so I decided to risk it. I like to have a place to aim for on out and backs so had decided to run to the Chateau de Bridoire which I knew was about 7km. Unfortunately pretty much downhill there and uphill back. I was also aiming for a steady consistent 7m/km if poss. Reached the chateau - 7.5k ๐Ÿค” 10k in 1:11 so on target. At 12k I was thinking when will this be over because things were starting to hurt and that hill is sooo long. Then, realising I would actually get to 15k, I threw caution to the wind, swerved onto my 4k circular route. 16km in 1:59:03, 7:27 average (yay, under 2 hours ๐Ÿ˜ƒ) Sorry Dexy5 but Beachcomber66 โ€™s challenge was just too tempting. Also, I have saved myself the agony of having to do it again for a while. Feel very proud and have a great sense of achievement, but I am looking forward to going back to 10ks!! cheekychipmunks it was worth waiting for the weather to improve.

Please can I have my nice shiny new badge, pretty please ๐Ÿ™

That's a fantastic achievement - and a great surprise for you when you didn't set out to go that far. Hope you have a lovely restful plan for the rest of the day - feet up, glowing with pride ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜

Thanks Linda, it feels great to know I can actually do it. GSR is beckoning now ๐Ÿ˜ฌ After a shower and a nice lunch I am just debating whether Iโ€™m capable of walking the dog round the block as OH has come down with shingles and not feeling too good ๐Ÿค’

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Sandie1961

Oh no! Shingles was horrible. I had it just before my GSR. It left me wiped out and rather 'down' long after the visible symptoms were gone - but that way that you don't realise til after you are fully recovered. Speedy healing to him. A gentle dog walk should be OK - so long as you have comfy shoes ๐Ÿ˜€

Congratulations on completing 10 miles, brilliant, I am not sure, but I suppose for you to get the word 10 miles (shiny new badge) next to your username leave a message on the August 10 miles healthunlocked graduation post and tell the administrators that you have ran 10 miles. I am not sure if it's the same as C25K and Graduate10 to do that, but give it a try.

in reply to Sandie1961

I used to live in Louth! That would be a hilly place to run. Doing some hill running too is good though: best of both worlds. I found it really hard to adapt to flat running when we moved here in February after the Cotswolds. Now I can tackle both x

Ooh yes, Lincs Wolds does have a few hills doesnโ€™t it? France gives me plenty of hilly opportunities but I still prefer the flat.

If you run hills regularly, they really donโ€™t feel harder than flat running, just different. Anyway, with that elevation gain you did brilliantly running 10 miles x

No pressure on me now. I think Iโ€™ll do what you and Beachcomber66 did; just wait for a cool windless day. Itโ€™s probably not going to happen this week as Iโ€™m treating my sister to a spa for her 60th birthday. A treat for me too! She might miss me if I disappear to do a quick 10 miles!

Thanks Paula, chere amie ๐Ÿ˜‚ Well, as it was an out and back route I had no choice about doing the 15k seeing that I slightly underestimated the distance to Chateau la Bridoire. Then I thought, if Iโ€™ve got to do 15 this time, then have to do it all again to get to 10 miles, I might as well get the agony over and done with, gritted my teeth and fixed a grimace on my face. Of course the fact that Beachcomber had done his 10 miles set off my competitive streak! Howโ€™s your holiday running?

in reply to Sandie1961

I had a few false starts, realising that it was way too hot to run at any time during the day except early morning. So I did a nice early, trail run last week. I was gobsmacked to meet lots of runners (groups and solo) who all say "Bonjour". It's rare to get an unsolicited Bonjour from a french person so their runners are a breed apart ;)
