Decided I wanted to get a HM in before my birthday in December so have booked the Great Birmingham Run on 13th October! Any tips?

Well done. Sounds like a great event!

Other than the obvious ones of training, preparation, etc. I would suggest you get as familiar with the route as you can. It is good to know what you will be facing, i.e. hills and when. I also like to have a fair idea of where I am on the route, not just from the markers, and where I am going to next.

If you can train on the route or part of the route (even once) it may help you when you come to the day.

Yep. Train 3-4 times per week, every week. Do intervals, short and long runs. Do it outdoors regardless of weather conditions. Any shortcuts? Nope. Just go for it!

Congrats on signing up. I don’t know if it has been mentioned, but you should also practice fuelling and nutrition strategies.
