MEC 12k trail race report

It was a hot one today with temps of 29 feeling like 42 with the humidity. I drove a couple of people down from the run group and we met a whole lot of folks from the Ninja sister group in Barrie. They had their own bus! It was easy to get to at only 20 min from home. Very chill vibe with many songs from my playlist played by the dj. I realized I had forgotten to bring my gels, but there were many aid stations with water and I had my nuun bottle, so I figured it would be ok. The trails were beautiful and very hilly but thankfully sheltered from the sun which got hotter as the day went on. The 12k race was fun, running with a couple of friends. The 12k people did two loops plus a shorter separate loop. I had a bit left in the tank for a sprint at the end. I finished with a time of 1:17, in 58th place out of 215 or so people, so I am ok with that. We took some pics and went for a meal afterwards. No great leg pains since the run which is a nice bonus. The turf was very soft throughout. The shins really appreciated it over pavement. This race series is quite inexpensive so there are no shirts or bling to show, but it was chip-timed and there were bananas! Overall a great day out!

Yikes! That’s a hot one to run in but at least you had some shade a some good aid stations by the sounds of it. This trail running seems to be suiting you quite well 🙂. I knew it would. What’s not to love?

It was very hot but I was expecting it to feel even hotter. The first half of the race was overcast which helped alot. Yes I am enjoying the trail running. This particular park at Kortright is a conservation preserve and had some beautiful trails. I will be back!

I'd want more than bananas to run in that heat - maybe a nice big ice cream :D :D :D Well done!

Well done! You’re a brave man for running in that heat! A couple of parkruns - one in Hamilton and one in Oakville we’re cancelled on Saturday.

It’s sounds like you had a great time with the group, chill music, running in nature and a meal. Running becomes more than just running !😊 Nice report.

Thanks Lav, yes I think any later in the day and they could have cancelled this one too. You are right, it’s gone way beyond just running now :)

Oh yes, Decker - trails are so much kinder on the legs I think, although I'm sure I would have struggled on your hills! Well done, that sounds like a great time and position too! Pity there was no medal - I ran a trail race a couple of years ago with no medals and I have to say, it doesn't quite feel the same!!! Bananas are great but medals are a memory🏅😀. Never mind, sounds like you all had a good post-run meal to make up for it!👍🏃🏻👏👏👏

Thanks Sandra, yes I even was able to go out the next day ( this morn) for a run, there was no residual pain from the race :) At only $10 CAD, this was a steal so I don’t mind missing a medal and swag. The company more than made up for it:)

You can’t beat a free banana after an event. 😋 sounds like a nice run and a good day out.

Free bananas and free Nuun electrolyte drinks were very popular afterwards. :) No cake though - I need to speak to someone about that
