Well, I missed elevenses...but it's nearly teatime so it's time for a bit of a catch up.

Look at that lovely bumble bee there, on a beautiful summer flower, filling his trouser pockets with...hang on...POLLEN NOOOOOOO. I don't know about you, but for me hayfever has struck with a vengeance this weekend! Every year I find myself thinking 'perhaps I'm cured!' ...and every year it turns out I'm utterly wrong. Strangely it doesn't bother me too much when I run, perhaps because I breathe through my mouth more often, but getting the motivation to get out of the house in the first place when I'm all at once stuffy and runny and itchy can be tough.

I hope you aren't as red and sniffy as I am, and if you are that you're powering through like a pollen-fighting superhero!

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Happy running!

Gorgeous pic!

Sorry to hear about your hayfever troubles, Squeak!

More of the same workouts for me this past week, except to say that for the first time this year I got some windsurfing on the sea ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„ I set off out across the waves, and then rather quickly discovered that the wind and current were stronger than I'd realised, and both going in the same direction - so I found myself drifting rapidly into forbidden territory. In fact I nearly ended up in Fatboy Slim's garden ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜œ Still, I got rescued in time, and went on to have some legal, and very fun, sailing after that!

Have a great week, everyone! xxx

Local honey is the supposed cure! It has to be very local to you apparently. find your nearest beekeeper! You eat it by the way. LOL

I had the hugest bee in my conservatory yesterday. It was cross too as it couldn't escape. I shooed it safely away via the window. It was absolutely mahoosive!

I hope everyone is going well with training. I got drenched this morning on my 5k jog but never mind. I cheered myself up by buying fresh nut supplies.

Training going according to plan. Counting down to this Sunday's half marathon. I have been roped in to man (woman) a stall at a gala afterwards. I've been promised food will be available when I get there. It had better be as I'm always straight into my grub after a run. Got to take my niece's dog with me. Tsk I really must learn to say "no"!

Have a great week everyone. Take care!

Nooooo! I've got to stop eating biscuits! Have put on a couple of kilos already since not being able to run. I eat anything and everything when I'm sitting around burning no calories ๐Ÿฅบ. Still getting out on my bike, still doing some home exercises that don't involve my foot - together with a bit of toe-yoga and my usual pilates. Not entirely idle, but I feel it. Oh, and stomping about in an orthopaedic boot waiting for an MRI date!!! Likely to be Aug or poss end July ๐Ÿคฌ. Ahh well, at least I don't have hayfever (much sympathy to anyone who does). Enjoy your runs for me folks ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh no! Do call them regularly in case they have cancellations before then!

I'm still in the two week period where I have to sit patiently and wait for them to call and offer me an appointment - I'm still in the booking queue. You can imagine how that's going ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฌ

Iโ€™m hoping to get out running this week for the first time since the Southend half a couple of weeks ago when my knees started playing up. My old shoes have been retired so I am planning a cautious kilometre or two in the new shoes to see how the knees stand up. If all is good then itโ€™s Parkrun at the weekend and then I can think whether I can do the Adidas City run 10k Iโ€™ve entered in July. Itโ€™s driving me nuts not running but i know itโ€™s for the best at the moment.

Much sympathy! I will probably have to cancel my Sept 10k and Oct Half Marathon. It sucks doesn't it ๐Ÿ˜ก

All thing bright and beautiful....and on this evening's run I had the soft, refreshing rain. Just as well as it was humid as hell!

We are red mason bee guardians in our house but also see lots of bumblers.

Fortunately, I have never suffered from hayfever, but it does look wretched.

No special events this week, just focussing on keeping up a consistent routine of 3x runs per week thorughout the summer. I find running in the heat a real challenge, not that we've had too much of that to date.

Glad to finally be allowed to run continuously for 7k last Friday, but back to 7k of run/walk intervals on a treadmill yesterday and for my 3rd run of the week tomorrow.

Have a sneaky plan to build back up to HM for a local race in early Sept, which my Sports Therapist isnโ€™t rejecting at this point. Weโ€™ll see. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I โ€˜m trying to get back on track with my half marathon plan. It was derailed by a vacation in a hot place where I was only able to do one 6k run on a treadmill due to inertia and 3 days of food related bodily issues.

So far, since my return Iโ€™ve done 2 5k runs since Saturday and will be doing my next scheduled long run of 14k later this week. My training plan has become much tighter in terms of time. Last nightโ€™s run was done in 26 degrees heat. Itโ€™s a good thing that Iโ€™m getting used to running at warm temperatures since my half marathon is on August 18th.

Yes, it was well high at the weekend. I had to break out the antihistamines.

I've got a brand new pair of Hoka Torrent trail shoes I'm itching to try out but I keep doing long runs and I don't think anything over 10 miles wise in new shoes... gotta plan a short trailie. They're way to grippy to use on tbe roads.

After pretty much having last week off need to get back on it... ideally 3 if not 4 runs... ๐Ÿคž

You do have a good excuse though ;-) I also have new shoes but need to time when I do other runs with it as dont want to compromise a long run... the logistics!

I had difficulty breathing at PR last Saturday despite having taken antihistamine and nose spray, now itโ€™s the humidity... but I reckon itโ€™s getting me prepared for something (not sure what). Glad to report that Iโ€™ve just completed week 1 of my HM training plan from runners world. I repeated the second run to fit in the PR. Iโ€™m in no rush anyway and any running I do is a good thing :-)

I survived my waffle race last Friday. Doing the short distance was fun, because the runners of the long race eventually caught up with us. I kept counting them - it might have been disconcerting to the runners, but too bad! I even made it to parkrun about 11 hours later. I was slow, but not as slow as I'd feared.

I managed to fit in a short run last after a long day in a stuffy interpreter's booth. It felt great! For now it looks like I won't manage the 5 runs a week I'd hoped for, but is definitely doable. So that means a long run tomorrow, unless I reorganize my schedule.

I used to get really bad hayfever as a child but it seems to have left with age, for now anyway. I've not been out since a longer solo run on Sunday morn. Found some new trails and places I'd not run before including a very nice nearby track that I will be visiting again. Think I overdid it that day as I decided to wash the car and mow the lawn too. So, yesterday I promptly pulled my back and my leg knotted up just sitting on the couch! :) After rolling, stretching and painkillers, I am feeling much better today, so I was planning on doing an cooler easy evening run tonight if all goes well. Intervals tomorrow. We have a shorter trail race (12-14k ?) coming up too that a few people in the group are doing.

oh... I hate hay fever... a couple of years ago I had it for the first time in my life (lucky :) ) . Funny thing, after a few weeks resisting I bought an antihistamines... never took it and the hay fever was gone :) I still have the full box in the drawer ... when you talk about "placebo effect"!

Last week i finally managed to get more than 40 miles in (it was over 6 weeks that I didn't) and put together my plan for the half marathon preparation (Belfast in September).

Then My running club invited everybody to compete in a track and field event... I went for it and enjoyed it a lot!!! but I still cannot walk properly...

healthunlocked.com/marathon......

Went for slow jog twice since (5 and 8 miles) and lots of stretching... I hope I didn't break anything... for how I can just jog and run...

have a great week!!!

Hay fever and allergies must be miserable :(

I'm back again (again again again) and hoping to make more of an effort to be here regularly as it will keep me accountable on my HM training. Which is already late, btw ๐Ÿ™„ Onwards and upwards though, no point in whingeing!

Tonight was my first run in over two weeks and it was a struggle. I canโ€™t believe how much fitness I have lost in that time. I ran 3km with a 500m walk between each km. The knees are still not feeling great so it looks like I am going to need a lot longer to recover.

pianoteacher profile image
pianoteacherMarathonHalf Marathon in reply to Sigered

I know that feeling! I injured my hamstring last October and didn't run for three or four weeks. The first run I attempted was a slow 2km and it was torturous ๐Ÿ˜” I felt like I'd never get my fitness back but slowly and surely it came back. Take your time to recover and it will return. Good Luck x

Finally getting round to catching up on here just as the week's nearly over!

I did another Progression Run on Tuesday this time in miles and although I gave up with half a mile to go (stoopid hot and humid!) it worked much better.

Have decided to try moving over to miles for everything other than short distance speed work and pacing at parkrun - I'll report back how I get on.

Speaking of parkrun it's my 50th on Saturday ๐Ÿ˜ Don't think I'll be breaking any records as it's forecast to be really hot but as I always say - the longer I'm out there the better my tan ๐Ÿ˜Š

Decker profile image

After 2 great trail runs and a lovely campground interval run during my little mini impromptu holiday, I'm back to work and working this long weekend. I'm rearranging my runs this weekend and will do my long run today with the hopes to do my short easy run over the weekend while on call. I usually head out to the lake for my long run but decided to stay in town and run the city pathway by the creek. I have a flatter trail race coming up in a couple weeks with undulating hills and need to prove to myself I can still run a continuous run after hiking a lot of steep hills on my lake trail runs. Then the dilemma of what kind of long run to do next week, the week before my race - stick to a trail with only a few steep hills to practice running more of the undulating hills or explore a different trail with steep hills just to change it up (mentally I feel like I need some exploration but it'll be 450 m elevation gain in 10.4 k). Any thoughts on that? This trail race is a 12.5k race that is 2 months before my 20k trail race with steep hills. I've been running the flatter portions of one of the loops in preparation of the flatter race the last 2 weeks so am kind of itching to hit a different hillier trail again.

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to SaskAlliecat

Sounds like youโ€™re wanting to change it up to some steeper hills and routes. I say go for it. Better to over prep for the easy race than to under prep for the hard one ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ˜

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatHalf Marathon in reply to Decker

That was my thought but Iโ€™ve been letting the gremlins work their way into my head about if I can even still run any distance without stopping now given I stop so much on my trail runs with the hills. So I went out and ran a continuous, way too hot and muggy type of run today just to prove I can (ugly as it was, since I mightโ€™ve started out too fast in my warmup and started wayyy too late in the morning). Iโ€™m thinking that the next trail race will likely be just a training run anyways, with a little kick at the end if I have it in me. Time to hit some steep hills and technical trails again methinks ๐Ÿ˜. I'm missing playing in the hills

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to SaskAlliecat

Put those gremlins in a metal box and screw the lid shut. You did it - ugly or not ๐Ÿ™‚. Way to go! Happy Trailinโ€™ !
