Hello everybody and welcome to a brand new week! I have been spending time planning how to fit in all my fitness between a full time job and a busy home life. However this quote gives me comfort as its so true and I will be applying this.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion 😊

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Have a superb week, and happy Panthering

Good morning all! I'm slowly upping my mileage, but am finding the running a bit harder than expected, so I've had to take some walk breaks. I guess I just feel the inclines on my regular route more than before.

And could somebody figure out why every time I tail walk at parkrun, I get stuck with super speedy people trying to catch up with the others? They wear me out, which means that this Saturday I ended up a few minutes behind the last runner.

I have no idea, but I am intrigued! I have just signed up to be a tail walker on Jan 26th... 😊

Ha ha! Last time I was Tailwalker I had to jog all the way round - I was most put out, what happened to all the walkers?! Sounds like yours were even speedier! Makes it difficult deciding what to wear if you're tailwalking - I got a tad hot! 😲

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to MutleyShuffle

I have been wondering about what to wear; from what I've seen at our parkrun I think a coat will be best. I suppose I can always just carry it if I need to hurry up a bit! Hmmm, but then there's the question of warm bottoms that don't fall down... Oh dear! πŸ˜‚

MutleyShuffle profile image
MutleyShuffleHalf Marathon in reply to roseabi

Ha ha, sounds like a bit more planning needed there! πŸ˜‚

C3PO profile image
C3POMarathon in reply to MutleyShuffle

Exactly! It was around -5, so it took me lot longer to figure out what to wear. Not to mention the fact that when I run from home, I go right out the door and get warm. Not hang around for half an hour cooling down first!

Very true. I struggled to find a new years resolution this year as my resolutions for the past few years have been healt/fitness/ running related, little daily changes, and I have managed to stick to them. I hve now run out of ideas. Perhaps this year my resolution is to ensure that I continue to live my life so as not to need to make any more new years' resolutions!

My cold whupped my ass last week, although I struggled on - except for my speed session (went for a gentle 5K instead). I'm hoping for better things this week! If those things go to plan I will be doing my first ever parkrun tourist run 😁

I have ordered some new shoes! Sock O' Knees 😊 Hope I like them...

I just finished a book on the subject of routine and micro habits and so this rings very true to me now :). I have slowly moved up to doing at least 20k on my long run each week. I’ve managed it twice now. Never thought that would be possible. Hoping I can continue it. Three strength workouts are also on the weekly list. Our group ran down to a local Buddhist temple on Sat which was beautiful. Am also trying to apply some of this to the rest of my life which is not so easy πŸ™‚

Decker profile image

Thanks :) I’m prepping for a 30k in March and maybe a mara shortly after so I’m trying to get more comfortable with the longer distances. Much easier in a group setting.

As part of my 50th year alive self coomisserations my resolution for 2018 was-:

As soon as I got out of bed 25 sit ups, press ups and leg raises, it evolved to, before I leave the house, β˜•οΈ some mornings need to start with coffee, they get done though , they are part of my things that need doing before I set off for work, they now take 2 minutes :)

This year I have added a different stretching exercise each day,

Still very much a WIP

Lunges- I did not realise how unsupple I am, first set I got to 3 and stopped it felt like something was going to ping in the groinal region :( but up to 6 ;)

The one legged squat, great progress, I am no longer hopping around the bedroom, still nowhere near all the way down yet but can appreciate how they will be a benifit to getting to a proper running technic,

I have had two days at 30 second planks, as part off this weeks magic 10 plan, after a year of Press ups I feel like a Jedi master and probably due a gold star ⭐️ ;)

Hi all - week started well this morning - I finally got back outside again after two months of gremlins/injury/fair weather thinking meaning I stayed on the treadmill. It was a lovely ultra-slow 7k round the country lanes in the morning sunshine. Over an hour non-stop, no issues with dodgy knee, so I think I am now officially back onto HM training πŸ˜€

Whether there’s now enough time to properly train for the Reading HM is questionable (just 9 weeks) πŸ€” (not going to risk further injury!).

So plan for the rest of this week is some gentle consolidation runs, plus lots of golf.

Tonnes of fresh snow on top of sheet ice here in Helsinki, so I'm back in the Batcave for a few runs. A 5k jog, 10k fartlek and Sat HM inc a Parkrun planned this week. Xmas weight gain not shifting as fast as I thought! :-(

Had a decent week of running last week and finally managed to get back up to 21k yesterday without issue (knee was a problem late December for a few days) and did another 11k on the track today. Less than 3 weeks to my first HM race of the year so have 2 more long runs and shorter runs to complete before taper starts. Rest day tomorrow πŸ™‚.

hi everybody!

I am entering the third week of the 18 week marathon plan. The first part of the plan is all about increase miles and run when tired. Looking to the last 30 days I have 195 miles on my legs and 120 come from the past 2 weeks... so, although last week I was travelling in Manchester for work and I had to decrease a bit my morning runs, I managed a decent amount of running!

Highlight of last week was on Sunday, when I managed 18 miles (first in almost a year) at 8'15''/8'30'' per mile with the final 4-6 miles at the marathon goal (dream) pace of 7'30''.

From this morning the plan gets a bit more complex as it requires a few 10 or more miles during the week... since I can only run before 7 am, it requires me to wake up at 5 or earlier. To my surprise this morning I managed to get out the door at 5:30 am!!!

the session was 10 miles with 6 easy miles (I ran them in about 50') and 4 tempo miles (Half marathon to 15K pace). I decided to give it a go and try as hard as i could and I managed to run those 4 miles in 27'20 (which is 6'50'' pace, so I may still have the 90' H pace in me :) )

now I am REALLY tired ... but happy about how the training is going so far :)

happy running everybody!

I'm having a few days off with a stinky cold πŸ€’ I don't get many colds but when I do they really take it out of me these days. The joys of getting older... I last ran on Sunday, a very hilly 16k, my furthest run to date, and found it really tough going. I had had a really sore throat the night before so I knew I was coming down with something but I still felt ok then so decided to squeeze the run in before the germs got a grip! I mapped my route out on the PC with MapMyRun (love doing that! - yes I know, a bit geeky!) to get the right distance but I didn't really take into account the inclines of the route, and there were some TOUGH hills - lots of them! I will be a bit more careful to take note of inclines next time I plan a route!

I was feeling quite lucky to have got this far into the HM plan without any niggles, but now the germs have got me instead! Think I will rest until I feel properly better - hoping to do Park Run on Saturday but I won't be aiming for any PBs!

Happy running all and commiserations to those on the IC or SC (snuffly couch) x

Well done on the hilly run - I love a few hills. They’re tough, but I know they are doing me good! 😁. Hope your cold clears up soon so you can get back to the HM plan and enjoy parkrun πŸ™‚

Thanks Macmac 😊 I thought I was learning to love hills, but I certainly didn't love them on Sunday! Too steep, too many and not enough energy. I will tackle them again when I'm better, I will not be disheartened! 😁
