Celebrate my new challenge or not

Since getting off the couch is January and have ticked off a few challenges. I decided to set a target that I am currently struggling in. Which is running further.I currently have a speed that I am happy with at 5k, 10k and 14k, but cannot seem to get any further. So I have managed to register for the Coventry Half Marathon in March 19 and for what better reason but for raising money for Zoe's Place. This should give me the motivation I need to get to this distance. I am actually very excited now I have a target and date and something to work towards. Maybe one day a full marathon

What do you mean that you have a "speed" for 3 different race distances - I'm sure that you mean 3 different speeds??? Do these three different paces have "relationship" with one another?? angio.net/personal/run/hadd... and you can calculate your paces for longer HM and M distances here runsmartproject.com/calcula...

Yes they have a relationship. I feel comfortable running 5k at approx 5 min 30 per KM, 10K is 5 min 45, 15k is 6min. On looking at previous runs I struggle to slow my pace to 6 min 30 or below. But I think I havent got the miles in my legs and once I hit 15k Imn often think that enough I can stop now. I havent got to the point of pushing myself further yet. I think I just have the fear that I cant run that far

It can be difficult to learn to run slower - so perhaps work your way up from 15K at 6 min pace , I can guarantee that your body will eventually slow down at some distance above 15K :)

Havig a planned run to train for certainly works for me, too. I like to see my runs as training for and event - it keeps me motivated, as I'm sure it will for you. THere are many HM plans out there to choose from, or just devise your own. Go for it!

Are you fueling for those longer runs? I know some say its not needed at this distance but we are all different. I find if I run more than 8k i need to think about fuel. I am a slow runner so anything over an hour. Just a date or two along the way, (ie well before I feel I need it) does the job for me, and electrolytes (High5) particularly if hot weather.

It’s something to consider maybe.
