Don't know about you but that past week shot by! I know there have been many events this weekend, so look forward to reading about those. However...

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion :)

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Have a great week, and enjoy your runs :)

Get some yoga done. I bought a five quid dvd. Best thing ever.! Do some gentle stretches now πŸ™‚ I couldn’t afford the post marathon sports massage. The yoga was like flippin magic (for a rigid 60 year old 😁). I had no issues at all. Mind you I Jeffed my marathon πŸ‘

I'll try that ta! I must admit that my legs have never felt this bad in my life before (except being kneed in the thigh in rugby!)

It’s beginners yoga with Tamal Dodge. It’s a bit Zen but I like that It kicks ass in such a gentle way though Some of it is tricky but you get better as you practice. My husband bought me the intermediate one Some great stretches, esp for backs! I keep telling my old man to do it but he’d rather bleat than do anything positive 🀨

Marathon legs means you got it done :) it's a good feeling :) enjoy your rest now. You can add some swimming (or just stay in the water) to yoga. it helps some times ;)

Hellooo!

I was feeling a bit rough last week (could it have been all that beer and cake??;) ) and ended up missing my Friday long run. This meant I didn't beat marathoner Lordi on the Strava Let's Run Around the Moon leader board - curses and chizzz, and crikey DM!!! 😊😊😊

I was top for abot 8hrs? And I missed it! Ha!

I’ve not updated mine. I’ll do it when I get back from running later πŸ™‚

Still plugging away with the marathon training. Did a 20k yesterday, and despite setting up properly, I struggled and was uncomfortable for most of it I did it though. Back out today with a 5k jog - the plan does this now. A short slow run after a longer one. I suppose it’s good for me 😫

My legs were ok this morning though. Not particularly concrete-like.

I did eat particularly good post run grub though. Nom nom πŸ˜‹

Been enjoying tapering before next weekend’s HM, although I went along to a running club and ended up doing an extra 9km 😁 that was not in my plan, but I want to get some coaching to improve technique and speed. I enjoyed watching some of the GNR yesterday on TV - that’s some event!

marco83 profile image

good luck with your taper and HM!!! enjoy the low mileage before the race ;)

Thanks Marco - it’s new to me this tapering thing, so I’ll see how things turn out at the weekend πŸ˜€

I’m on a low mileage week this week after last week’s 2nd 28k. Actually the 28 was easier than the 12 earlier in the week! A few days away now and will be doing 5k and 12k on/near the beach at Barmouth. Weather is set to be wet and windy but I’ll be running by the sea!! πŸ˜πŸ‘

Also the 28ks were naked. Ipod was in my pocket but never felt the need to get it out.

I’ve still been running the HM Asics program, and going a bit farther with the run group on Saturdays. Also trying to join them for Wed eve intervals to up my pace a bit. A great bunch of people, all working so hard, so inspiration is always nearby. So far so good.

Just watched this great little documentary about the Barkley Marathon it's very good and in the same vain as the race that eats its young. GingerRunner who made this has some good stuff on youtube.

Oh man, I find the Ginger Runner really annoying, but I love seeing stuff about the Barkley Marathons! So I'll most probably watch this...

Not tempted to run it though 😊 You?

In Sardinia for a week of sun and relaxation. Managed to do 6.5k on Sunday on the hotel outside treadmill (hard work in the heat but at least it was in shade) but in doing so I tweaked my Achilles - so am taking it easy until it recovers. Suspect I won’t be making my target 25k this week ☺️

I survived my first proper half marathon, hooray! I will do a report ASAP. Buuuut have now lost my voice as the result of an unrelated work lurgy which is proving tricky! I'm trying to do voice-over and nothing is coming out, except the occasional squeak. My running plan for the week is maybe a gentle run tomorrow lunchtime and Friday lunch time, and then a longer run on Sunday before I begin my next taper...

Oo, and Langley-Loper

I'm happy to report the Hygge bands are a good Buff alternative! I wore one for the half distance and it was great. They're not as high quality as genuine Buffs, with a slightly raggedy raw edge (which didn't matter as generally that bit is turned in) and the logo is a bit yuck (it's just on one end though unlike the Buff which has two logos, so I easily hid it in a fold), but on balance I would certainly recommend the buy one get three free offer as a good Buff introduction 😊

Thanks for the accessory feedback. I may have to buy some Hygges just for the hell of it and try out the 14 kazillion different ways to wear them. I guess they won't stop me sweating but might stop it stinging my eyes if worn in the correct configuration.

Sqkr profile image
SqkrHalf Marathon in reply to Langley-Loper

I'm sure it will help, if not stop it entirely! I'm a big fan of the headband style buff. I fold it into four, tie it at the back with a tiny ribbon (I have a round head like a lollipop, so I find them a bit wide at the nape of the neck and gathering it in at the back makes it just perfect) then pop it on just above my eyebrows, over the tops of my ears. It mostly tames my wild hair, and I've never yet had a stingy eye. Except when the mystery bug flew in, but that's another story...

NB. I don't get a commission, but I probably should. I love a Buff.

I am in serious prep for my 10k event on 30 Sep. It has slippery grassy slopes (hills to me, pimples to others) and I am aiming for 1hr max.

As mentioned elsewhere, I am finally in the last 2 weeks of the half marathon training. I pushed the training a bit further this year (145 miles in June, 175 miles in July and 180 miles in August), with multiple ups and down since January, the marathon in Luxembourg that destroyed me and the half marathon in June (4or5 weeks after ) with 1'31'37'' (7 min mile pace). The reason? A part (as any member of my family thinks) that I am a bit crazy and a bit masochist, is that I decided to try hitting the 90' mark in the HM.

Trust me is harder than I thought (and I am not there yet!!!) All I know is that I ran pretty much every week of the summer over 40 miles a week, with 2 faster run (one interval one either fartlek or speed in the middle of the long run) and a pick mile last week (after a 10 K in 40:16 ggrrr....) at 50 miles. And I am now officially tired!

I need to get through this week with about 30 miles, then I am gong to north Carolina on Sunday the 16th (if Florence is good...) for work and come back (I hope) on Saturday 22nd at noon. Hopefully, I will get some speed/race pace workout next week and will be ready for Sunday the 23rd for the big race of the year for me (Belfast HM, goal 90'... )

And if I don't hit my target.. it's ok, I enjoyed trying and I will be happy I attempted it.

happy running!

Marco

Well, I still have no voice, and now also have an old man cough and a stuffy nose. (ARG it's just once thing after another just now!)

My question is should I run with a cough? I know they say if it's above your shoulders it's OK, below not so much. Does that exclude all running, or would a gentle lunchtime trot be OK? Admittedly I don't feel very keen, but I will force myself to go out for a bit if it won't do any harm. Alternatively I could skip a run and wait till Friday. Any thoughts from all you more experienced runners? Keep wrapped up and warm, or get things moving? πŸ€”

marco83 profile image
marco83Marathon

It all depends on how you feel... if it’s a cough caused by too much shouting and partying , I’d say you can go... however, if you had cold or think you have something not perfectly ok in your body (health related meaning a cold growing or similar) then have a break today and see how you feel... how are the legs? Energy levels? How do you feel?

Looking at what you say you would force yourself out, it might be worth resting today.... it is really down to you (I ran with fever and rested with cough it just depends)

Hope this helps rather than increasing uncertainty... ;)
