Windsor Autumn Half Marathon

RazouskiHalf Marathon

I just need a bit of advice or encouragement. A friend of mine has been trying to persuade me to enter for a half marathon event, and for certain reasons we're trying to find one on a Saturday so that he can come and support me. I'm thinking about entering the Windsor Half Marathon on October 20th, but the one thing putting me off is that it is a 4 and half loop course and doesn't start until 12.30. I'm just umming and ahhing!

It would be about an hour's drive to get there, the only other proper events I have done were two 10ks which both started in the park behind my house so I didn't have to worry about getting there or where to put my stuff etc.

I know I can run the distance, but I just need to be prodded to actually enter a "real" run.

What do you lovely people think?

If you want to do it then go for it!! You'll do brilliantly.

I found another Saturday one in London that looks nice - it's called the Thames Meander and it's an out-and-back route. There's one on Saturday November 3rd and the half starts at 10.30 am :)

Regarding where to put your stuff, events usually have some sort of bag drop facility.

The Thames meander looks like fun. I'm actually tempted to do it as well.

That's the spirit 😂

You know full well what we think 😁

I did a six lap marathon, fearing the worst, but it was absolutely fine. She who dares wins 💪😁👍🏃‍♀️

Actually, it was 7 laps 🙄

I will give it a go. My friend who has coerced me into doing it said, at least with loops he can get to cheer me on 4 times rather than just once. :-)

That's a good point!

Yay, go for it! Or if not this one, something similar :) Have you looked at Run ABC for other events near you on a Saturday?

And bag drop etc. isn't usually a problem, as Rosabi says.

I will take a look at Run ABC to look to see if there is anything nearer to me. Thanks for the link Anniemurph .

Most welcome! :)

Can't beat a bit of faffage before an event, it's all part of the experience isn't it? A late start gives plenty of time for breakfast to go down. Go for it.

I'm usually a first thing in the morning runner after just a cuppa. So I'm going to have to put some later runs into my training schedule to get used to having breakfast I think.

Go for it Raz. You will be awesome!

Thanks Decker - well I've registered for it now, so I think I have got to do it!

If I had the chance to do the Windsor HM, I'd do it without a doubt. I've been looking at it for a while, and it looks really good. I share your practical concerns, but I'm sure they can be worked out.

Well I’ve registered for it now so I’m just going to have to prepare myself.

There were a couple of half marathons at Windsor, but this one although it says Windsor is actually around Dorney Lake.

That’s the spirit! I’m sure you will smash it!

sallenson in reply to Razouski

And you may get some rowing eye candy to peruse while you run :-)

Mmmm don’t want it slowing me down tho’
