So, how are you all doing?

I have a few results already from last week, including some particularly storming ones from marco83 , BLEWI , and C3PO !

I know a few of you are going to wait until later in the challenge to try your wings, and poor misswobble 's calf has been in the wars - GET WELL SOON, WOBBLE!!

Does anyone else have anything to report from last week? Please comment below :)

Sorry this has to be a bit of a brief post today (got the in-laws in), but I hope you are all having fun in the sun! EDIT: or even revelry in the rain!!

I have set up my spreadsheet of results which can be viewed at the link below. Do let me know if you would prefer not to be included!!

I have taken the liberty of adding your fantastic result to my spreadsheet! Well done :)

In-laws are now out-laws. At least, I hope they got home OK...

Hope Misswobble is going to be ok! I had a shorter 10k race on Sat that I posted in the 10k forum. I managed to squeak my 10k down again just a little to 59:30, from 59:54, on some winding, slightly hilly groomed trails, so I am happy with that. May try one more shot on our Saturday run depending on what route we wind up on. Best of luck to everyone making an attempt!

Excellent work!

Well, I managed to knock some time off my 10k, to hit 51.06 last week. Not sure I will improve on that this month so may have peaked 🙂, but it would be nice to be able to get down to 50, so that’s my new target 🙂

What happened to misswobble ? I think I hve missed it. Hope everything will be ok soon :)

Have fun with the in-laws! I am going to Italy on the 19th of July and will spend about a month with parents and in-laws... hope you are having fun ;)

Moment of honesty: I checked the spreadsheet and you have been to kind with my time. 52:30 was on 8 miles. The challenge was on 8.3, so I have adapted it (up to 54:00, still a great result so I am pretty impressed on how well intervals are working this time!). This also gives the lead back to the rightful owner (BLEWI - sorry I cannot tag not sure why..).

Today I am in pain (legs and arms!!! But it's a good hurt after a really good workout). tomorrow intervals:

3 X (800 and 1,200) at 3'50 to 4' per Km; recovery 3/400 mt. jog. if I have the energy I will add 1 or 2 1,000 at the end.

have a great week and happy running!!!

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to marco83

I calculated it from 8 miles - or rather 12.87 km :)

marco83 profile image
marco83Marathon

Oh I see now... then 52:30 was the correct time (not 54:00), sorry I thought it was too fast per Km, but apparently that was it...

it's ok no worries, I will not mess up again with your stats ;)

have a great day.

It's fine, and I wouldn't want you selling yourself short - that was an amazing time!!

No sun here today for a change, but still no rain either - 7 weeks of drought, apart from a mm or so of rain!! Anyway, I'm very impressed at your superlative organisation and data recording roseabie - love the graph too! And get well soon MissWobble!!

I posted this afternoon's 5k result in one of your previous posts before I spotted this latest one, so have copied it here:

I'm eating a recovery bowl of porridge after this afternoon's 5k in a time of 32m 03s. I was glad there was no-one to see me, as I was gasping for air up the hills again! Still slumped to 15min per mile pace on the steepest hill section, but my 1st 2 miles were a bit faster than last Monday, while the 3rd was slower. An improvement over Thursday's sluggish 10k effort anyway, and despite the snail-like uphills I tried to keep my head up and arms pumping while my legs did their usual shuffle ... at some point, I hope my legs will get the idea and pump just as hard as my arms :)

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to APScotland

I gotcha! :) Well done again - check out the graph!

Hello, here are the results from the Langley jury. I did my 5km route last week in 28:26. I may have peaked too early.

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Langley-Loper

Hi!!! Sorry I missed this post before - that's a brilliant result, and now recorded!!!

You have a jury, eh? Sounds serious... :)

I used the stamina podcast when I did my 5k on Saturday in an attempt to slow me down at the beginning and have some oomph left at the end.

Result: 5k in 33:13, which is way off my pb at a park run, but not bad for the uphill 2nd half (and 24degrees and 76% humidity before 7 in the morning!) and an improvement on my starting time. I wasn't completely done in at the end, so can hopefully improve on this further...

Still unsure about tactics with this route though. Next week I might just try legging it down the hill and seeing how much I've got left for coming back up - using the stamina podcast again as I do think it helped on the way back, but ignoring the beat for the downhill part.

APScotland profile image
APScotland in reply to runningnearbeirut

Sounds like you have a similar 5k route to me - mostly downhill for the first half, mostly uphill for the second. Today I tried legging it down the hill and staggering back up it. As you say, it's tricky to decide on tactics - no chance of a steady pace, that's for sure! :)

runningnearbeirut profile image
runningnearbeirut in reply to APScotland

Yes, I read your comment and thought it sounded very familiar!

What gets me is that I KNOW it's there and back, so what goes down comes back up, but does Endomondo realise this? Oh no. Always something like 60m descent and 30m ascent.

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to runningnearbeirut

Not bad?? That's amazing!!! Well done :)

runningnearbeirut profile image
runningnearbeirut in reply to roseabi

Thank you!! Improvement this week looking less and less likely though - yesterday heat and inertia kept me inside and today it's a thunderstorm. Seriously. It never rains in June here, but we've had some interesting downpours today. The rain wouldn't (probably) keep me in, but the thunderstorm will :(

And I can't go later. Things to do, places to be.

Hi Abi,

Gosh your spreadsheet expertise is impressive.

Did not post a time for wk1 and gave you a running commentary on all 3 attempts.Instead of reading the guidance and complying.

Also having said otherwise, not going to attempt speed challenge wk2, I have decided to change to an absolutely flat route 17 times round a 300m football field and go for it Thursday.

My only official park run is 47:06 which I rounded down to 45:00.That remains my target to better.

Going to use Laura’s speed podcast to help me round.

Hope this all in line with the challenge.🤔

Again a huge thank you.🌟👏👏

It's a pleasure, and I remembered you said you would be running later in the month, so it's all in hand :)

Ach I tried, I really did, but alas I only made it round my 5k doorstep route in 26.04 this evening (26.05 when uploaded to Strava for some reason! Maybe the metadata is rounded up differently?). In my defence I was running right into Storm Hector, there were bits of tree flying around the place and my cap kept blowing away 😂 Maybe I should also try it on a day I wasn't up at 5.30 for work, but time is not on my side just now! It all counts though so I'm still happy.

roseabi profile image

Well done!

BLEWI profile image

Just ran 10k in 55:45 however when I got home and my watch synced with Strava it somehow lost the times for my 2nd and 4th Km and so therefore thinks I ran it in 43:11 🤣🤣🤣 can I totally cheat and submit that time instead?!!

Actually it was a really tough run and I nearly quit in the 4th Km!

I decided to abandon the thought of going for 10km and just try to run for 8km. However, second 5km was a lot easier and quicker so pushed on for the 10km. The Strava glitch was just the icing on the cake for persevering 😂

Ha ha :) Well done!

Hi roseabi

Managed to get a PB for our club time trial last night in a time of 31:04 cutting of a minute from my 5km time :D

The rain and gale force winds have kicked in today... hopefully will calm down before Saturdays trail run!

Me to. Ha ha.

4th attempt/ DNR.

Actually reviewing my Strava records I have already posted a 43:41for 5k on the 20/05/2018. 2days after I did my first 10K on the 18/05/2018.

So Abi that is my new target in the last 2 weeks.

Atb, thank you.

I famously just used to pack a corkscrew 😁. I’d just buy stuff as I needed it, when I got there. I don’t drink now so,don’t even need that! 😃

That works ok til you go somewhere like the western isles of Scotland. I think every place we’ve ever been my husband has had to buy me a rain coat. He once got mad with me and bought me a girl’s one in bright pink plastic 😊

This week's running / training has been interrupted by a couple of days trip to Glasgow and back with a lot of sitting down in a cramped van, a weird collection of very unbalanced meals, and a very tasty birthday cake ( for me!). I eventually got out for my 2nd attempt at my hilly 10k route this afternoon, in the rain, and am pleased to report a little improvement, with a time of 1hr 9m 42s, ie 6m 58s per km. Feels good to have crept under the 7m /km mark! :)

I'm not surprised you're chuffed - that's absolutely amazing!!!!

73 s/km over your base pace, extremely well done!!!!!
