Hello, fit bits, and welcome to a brand new week!

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. It's always inspiring to see everyone's training updates!

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Let us know how your training, running, racing, coffee drinking is going!

Is that sunshine I can see???

Have a springy week of running :)

No taper, I'm ultramarathoning :)

I thought you’d be free-wheeling for two weeks pre Brighton

Don’t work too hard 😁👍🏃‍♀️💪

Taking plenty of rest days, but I have a 22 miler planned for Saturday. Cutting down a bit after that though :)

The thought of doing 22 Miles is daunting. Rather you than me 😃 not sure when to start my new marathon plan. Possibly in May, post my hilly 10k and Cardiac Hill race 🤔

I am still plugging away with my Sat longer 16k pancake run with the Ninjas running group and a shorter 7k and 10k run during the week. Creeping closer to my sub hour 10, wed was 1:00:53. Dang, so close! Maybe next time. Happy trails everyone

So close - you'll get there soon!!

Haha ya hopefully. No big rush :)

I'm eyeing the sub 1 hr 10k too but my Asics HM plan won't let me go for that just yet (all longer runs are at 6:20 pace)!

I am quite sure that wont be a problem for you later on Lordi. You are naturally fast!

I seem to have mastered the running slower knack after my c25k overexuberance though!

I think you will be fine once you crack the distances.

A new week already 🙂

Been busy today! My neice is flitting so three of us headed to Baaaaarnsley this morning to move furniture, as yer do; my sliced finger and twanging calves permitting 😁

Came back with a new settee, footstool, Lidl run tights, matching top, and a pug 🙄

Running wise, having four clear days off running, according to my plan. I am taking my aching calves to the gym tomorrow. That should be interesting. It’s making me wince just thinking about it. They ache more than they did after my marathon 😖 I walked all the way to the van hire place in the hope of loosening them up. Walked the dog, and up to the shops. I daren’t sit about or i’ll Seize up 😁

I went to a spa last night, my calves were very happy afterwards :) Hope yours feel better soon, I'm sure they will. You were going so fast on Saturday!

A pug?

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon

Yup. He came free with the settee 😁

I am going to roll my calves. My husband has just been battering the front door down. It took me ages to answer the door 😩

Oh dear...

Free pug with sofa, what a deal!

Looking good!

I'm always doing my runs at around the minimum Asics pace suggestion. So I'm waiting for the auto update email at some point that will ease off on the speeding-up pressure!

Wow you are flying Lordi!

Lordi profile image

That's what Asics wants me to do. So not the same as what I decide to do/ manage to do. ;-)

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to Lordi

Ah right. 🙂My Asics HM plan seems a bit wonky at times too. I am also a bit mixed up with my plan because my Saturday group runs have been longer than the plan. Next week the distances increase to 18, so it should straighten out then.

Hi there

I have yet to post on this forum, more active on the weightloss NHS side, but thought I would say hi!

I am doing my third HM (first one this year) this Saturday (Two Oceans HM in Cape Town, South Africa) and have entered two more (14 April and 1 May). Any suggestions ahead of the race? I am not the fastest runner but would like to aim to finish in 2:30/45 (this race has a looooong hill and finishes on a hill...).

This past week I have run the most I have ever ran in one week - 41km (12, 4, 10, 5, 10km + 2 x 600m swims) and my body is feeling it...

I am planning to only run a 5km tomorrow and swim on Wed, any advise would be great!

In awe of all the speedy runners here!

Hi Monkey! Welcome to the forum, it's lovely to have you here. Congratulations on all your running achievements!

It's difficult to offer much advice to you because it looks as though you've everything in hand :) Good idea to rest a bit this week if you're feeling tired after last week's exertions. What is your personal best time for a hm? With the hills I would conserve my energy going up and let rip going down (depending on how steep).

Would you like me to add you to our Events calendar? And would you like a half marathon badge now, or would you prefer to wait until after Saturday? :)

I look forward to hearing about your race - very interesting, I don't remember seeing anyone from South Africa on the forum so far...

DiveMonkey profile image
DiveMonkeyMarathon

Thanks roseabi I did my first HM last year July in 2h35 (relatively flat route along SeaPoint to Camps Bay) and then my second in Oct in 2h43 (similar route to previous HM just one steeper hill - slowed down after the hill as someone had collapsed up the hill - quite scary...)

Not sure what to expect at this race as it is the biggest Ultra and HM in SA (excluding the Comrades of course). I would like to stick with a pacing bus (someone who runs with a set time goal - has a little flag so you can follow them if you want to finish under that time) but I so far I have never managed to stick with one as I like to keep my speed consistent through the race and they often change pace depending on where they are in the race. Has anyone here used a pacing bus?

How does the events calendar work? I don't mind too much about the badge :)

Glad to be the first South African on the forum :) You should all come and visit sometime!

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to DiveMonkey

Ooh, thanks for the invitation :D

All the races I've been in had a pacing bus, although we just call them 'pacers' here. I think it can be a bit soul-destroying to run with them (like you I prefer to stick with my own rhythm) - I got my pb at parkrun by sticking with one of the pacers, but generally I try to pretend they're not there :) I caught up with the 2 hour pacer at my last half marathon and realised he was playing music on his phone - annoying!

The events calendar is a list of races people are running in, can be seen to the right of the page on desktop browsers, can't be seen at all on the app. But I can see it, and I'll give you a cheer on the weekend of your event :)

DiveMonkey profile image
DiveMonkeyMarathon

Sure you can add me to the calendar :) I will be posting on the NHS weightloss forum on the 1 April (Tortoise & Hare club) and will share it here when I do :)

So far whenever I try to stick with the bus it always gets very crowded and I often have people running on the back of my heels, shoving (not intentionally I hope) and then I end up falling to the back of the crowd and loosing the pace... This race has posted the pace setters splits for the entire race so I think I might just print that out and bring it with me to avoid the 'bus' but still finish within the time I want.

Great!

I've put up the Two Oceans half - what are the other ones you're doing?
