Hiya and welcome to a new week.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week.

If youre a lurker it is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week,

I'm still enjoying the ultra training plan - even that intervals session on Tuesday :D I took a break from strength training last week though, partly to save my legs for...

The Milton Keynes Winter Half Marathon!! Postponed from December 10th due to the snow, we finally got to run it yesterday (Sunday), and it was really good. I managed to squeeze myself across the finish line in just under 2 hours :)

Just back from an hour (ish) easy run to the pier and back. No rest for the (would-be) ultrarunner!

I've now tied down a suitable HM plan and am using Asics. My plan has moved up a gear now though and asks for some challenging 8km fast runs for the next few weeks at around 5:16 to 5:36 (yikes!). So it's going to be back to heartrate zone 4 territory for a while until my fitness improves...

I super-slow jogged the 21.8k HM distance last Tues 02:29:19, setting off without any initial plan to go past 8k! I learned a lot. It's a long old way. I also now have a very firm idea of the task at hand. I also learned that I need to fuel-up before a long one (and a boiled egg for breakfast just doesn't cut it). As a result I got a slight "bonk" around 18k which doesn't feel too great. Also learned that my legs seem to be up to the job ( no stiffness or issues from my overexuberance ) but I won't be exceeding my Asics plan distances from now on as I don't want to temp fate injury-wise.

I love it when a plan comes together! Although I remember those Asics fast 8ks... they're lovely when they're finished :D

For my pre-race breakfast yesterday I had a bagel with lashings of peanut butter, and home-made espresso brownies, all of which amounted to around 560-600 calories. And I was more than ready for lunch afterwards! I'm 1.68 metres tall and weigh about 61 kilos, so go figure :)

The calorie bonus of the long distance runner!

Absolutely!

I was surprised my Garmin said only 1092 calories for my 21.8k, which doesn't seem like much for sweating blood! May because it was Niko Niko style at 7:04/km? 75 kg 1.73m tall. HR zone 2 for 60 mins, HR zone 3 for 90 mins - so maybe low intensity etc.

Dunno :) More than a boiled egg, anyway...

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to Lordi

I can’t believe you did that distance and pace on just a boiled egg! Wow!

Nowt worse than running out of energy. You feel so bad! Faint, sick, your legs are jelly. Don't let it happen!

I make espresso bars too. I once had to go running during the night after making those as I ate all the crumbs, then I had to eat the funny shaped ones and then one just to make sure it was right and that I liked it. I got espresso jitters. Eek!

The peanut butter power bar recipe on here is fabulous! I took several on my marathon with me. I had three left, all wrapped in foil. I took them away with us in the car for our jaunt last weekend, in case we needed them if we got trapped up the Cat and Fiddle! They were fine! My husband who thought he wouldn't like them, did!

Congratulations on your HM! What a fab time!!!!!! Well done. What ultra distance are you going for?

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to misswobble

Testing jitters - lol! I brought extra espresso brownie for my mum to try, and she ate it, but didn't say a word - so I guess that was a thumbs down! I think they're pretty good though :) Actually I had an espresso on one of my runs last week, because I needed the loo and had to visit a cafe. I like the buzz :) But jitters are not good for sure!

Your husband seems to be broadening his horizons recently...

Thank you xx I am doing the London2Brighton 100k at the end of May :)

I've lost the recipe for the peanut butter power bars could you let me have the link, again pretty please?

I've got a fast 12k planned for tomorrow afternoon. Will be the first of my afternoon runs since changing my job hours. Be interesting to see what happens.

Training going fine. I have to run 12km today, "fast" I think. I have the dog here though and he's limping with a cut on his foot, so it's walks little and often, so struggling to get out. Bah! I bet I end up running in the dark again. Double bah!

I heard sommat amazing this morning re my newly-fledged gym thing. My husband said he would go with me ! I nearly choked on my Frylite egg!

I get a proper fitness plan from the gym on Friday, with my hydration, nutrition, fitness timetable, aims/expected outcomes etc. Ooooer.

As it is a stat holiday here today, I went out this morn with some new purchases equipped: compression calf sleeves and a flip belt to hold my wallet and keys. Everything worked well. No snow to plow through either which made going easier. There were some black ice spots that I had to dance around here and there. Finally did the whole 21.1 shebang! In fact I had it in my head that it was 21.5 so I did that, haha! Will not be running for at least a few days after this. Did not push hard at all and tried to run to my 3-4 heart zone. But by the end I was in 4 and 5 🙂but still feeling ok. Wound up being a 7:28 pace, which for me felt ok, all things considered. Everything feels tired now, even after a long soak, but at least I know I can do the distance when the time comes. Weather was ok, a bit rainy and grey, but decent. Put the sleeves back on now and they seem to be doing their job. No major pain yet. Collapsed onto the couch with a cup of tea now

Nice start to the week with a 10 mile run this morning on a new route. Tired by the end but feels good that a 15k coming up shouldn’t be a problem with the right prep :)

Still looking for the recipe for the peanut butter power bars- any help appreciated :) 🏃🏼🏃🏼🏃🏼

Just a quick update, so you don't think I've gone off the grid. I'm in London with family, and have decided to take things mostly easy this week. We have plenty on the agenda as it is. Hopefully I can fit in a run tomorrow and parkrun on Saturday.

Everyone's doing it so why not me ? Off I went knowing the cut off time for the Longhorn marathon was about 10 mins a km and 22kms later I was under the time. Can I keep it up for a further 22 . Course I will. !!!!!!!!

Tapering week - I hate it! That said, I beat my parkrun pb by a whole minute last Saturday and did a couple of nice, easy-pace social runs in the week. Feeling pretty good but nervous about tomorrow...😬

Just hoping to make it round. I’m not good on hills, grass or mud...so I’ll struggle with 12.1 miles of this one!

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to Gabby08

Right there with you when it comes to grass and mud - I went very gingerly along some of my route today!

Gabby08 profile image

I’m too unfit to run up the hills and too scared to run down them so it’ll basically be a 13 mile walk 😂

Well it was a lovely Sunday morning and the last Sunday of every month is 10k time in Clumber Park. So of I went . Being 76 in May it was my intention to do a 10k in less than 76mins some time this year. I await the official time but my Tom Tom and Fitbit both show 75+:mins.!!!!lll

75.22mins official time.

Only fitted in one 5k jog and one fast 5k run this week (in Rome while on city break holiday!) but I think my legs are thanking me for it after not taking a rest week since c25k - b210k - HM badges. Might squeeze a run in today tho (Sun 25th Feb) although it's a bit chilly outside at the moment at minus 8 degrees.
