Early this week, my 6-year-old decided that he wanted to do Parkrun this week. There are no junior events here, so that meant doing the full 5 K. I was a bit worried about the conditions, but luckily it was 4 degrees and mostly dry, with a few icy patches. And he completed it! We had warned the Parkrun team in advance, and the tail walker took good care of him. He mostly walked, but I think that finishing in 1:02 isn't too bad for such a little boy.
Of course, now he says he never wants to do it again...

That is so awesome! I got my son to run the kid's event at my last race and he did well but getting him to train was like pulling teeth. He's a good runner with a great running build but finds it "boring" to train 😩. Oh well, pick my battles. I'm a lone runner anyways. Maybe when he's in high school he'll change his mind and will kick his momma's butt on a regular basis.
Well he’s a little smasher! What a lovely smile, did he take his little friend with him too? Well done him, that is a long way for those little legs.......I bet he’ll want to go again at some point......😉
Our Parkrun is going to have a dedicated junior Parkrun on Sundays, according to a Marshall I was out with last night. There used to be an age 11 thing but I don’t think that applies now as long as the child finishes with the parent, or whoever is in charge 🙂
The children have to want to do it of course but they seem enthusiastic 🙂
