10 miles. Finally earned this thing! :)

Awhile back I did a virtual medal, which was for 10 miles, but they let you off by allowing you to complete it over a weeks worth of running. Today I was supposed to do 14.5k again and went extra slow to go a bit further, up to 16.1 to get 10 miles done in one stage. It took 2 hours but its done and I have no injuries and feel pretty good after a shower and some breakfast. I will work on better pace as time goes on, but happy for now and a bit surprised this was possible today. The weather was really mild and dry which helped a lot.

Wow! Way to rack up those miles Decker!!! You'll be running a HM (or perhaps is there a marathon in your future?) in no time at this rate. Here's hoping the weather stays mild and dry....

Thanks Sask. It was a nice day to run. Was going so slow I got thoroughly lapped by a young fella, bu I don’t care. I’m just rolling with it for now. Was thinking about an HM in March or May maybe. Still need lots of training before then 🙂

How is your post 10 plan going?

I've struggled mentally with running this week. Forced myself to do a speed interval workout on Monday since I was relegated to the treadmill. My hamstring has been tight since. I suspect it is because hubby adjusted the belt on the treadmill but made it worse not better. So it would slip which is a crappy feeling, especially as the pace increased. I was too stubborn to stop my workout so I have a bit of a niggle now. It supposed to be 9 degrees tomorrow though (crazy for us, I know!)so hopefully it'll feel ok for another 10k but I'll play it by ear. It was ok on Friday for 5.

I'm not following any set plan right now but have an idea in my head of what I want to do so we'll see how it goes. I had my eye on theHypothermic half inRegina in February but I'm not sure if I'll be ready and the wind has been a b*tch this year. That would suck if it's -20 or -30 and windy 😳. Right now it's all about just keeping running 3 days a week, hopefully with an increase in weekly mileage and trying to avoid injury.

I hear you. It must be harder working on a slipping treadmill when you want to be outdoors. 9 degrees was like what we had today! Good luck with your next 10. Hopefully the wind isn’t too bad.

The Hypo half sounds like it would be crazy cold, but you’d probably be fine, having dealt with so many cold runs already. Can’t even imagine what the wind chill would be against -30 temps! Our March run is called the chilly half and there is a free chilli and beer at the end.

Best of luck also with your treadmill and weather going forward!

Mmmmmm.....Chili 😋. The trail run I did in the fall had free poutine and beer at the end. I only ran the 5k so I was pigging out and enjoying my brew before 10 am 😆.

Here's hoping for more outdoor runs than treadmill runs over the winter! You're doing amazing, getting some serious miles on your legs. You'll have no problem with a HM in the spring!

Yes chili! Ooh poutine 😍 How can you say no when there is poutine and beer before 10am?

Heres to both of us doing our HMs by the spring!

Great job! I think that's the way to do the distance - because you felt OK and wanted to, not because you had to.

Thanks C3PO, yes its no fun if we put too much pressure on ourselves, right? Just trying to keep it light for now anyway

Top job as always, bud! You're definitely going for it the right way with time on your side.

I'm doing my 21k approach the way l did my 10k. I'm consolidating 10k until I'm doing it without strain, fatigue or time pressure, only fun. Once that's done I'm increasing the distance. I reckon I missed qualification for the Olympics hence the pressure is off.

Good luck with chill factor :(

Haha thanks man, yes the pressure is definitely off for both of us. That’s a wise approach you are using. Apart from this one distance cheat, I’ve been following the Asics plan pretty closely. So far so good 😊. Still looking for a warm pair of mitts. Best of luck with your plan bud.

Good, well done. 16k doesn't sound too much further than 10k but it's quite a leap when you actually try and do it, so hats off to you for nailing it

Slow and steady gets the job done, you come home in one piece and get to run another day. Hot bath and some food. Job's a good un!

Well done on the bling too!

Thanks Miss W. I really felt it going from 10 to 14 last week in the cold. This one was a bit easier with the nicer weather and no wind. But I felt it in my calves big time the next day. They are still a bit stiff 😁. All good though. Slow and steady are really underrated.
