Problems with my BUM!!!

I gave in and went to see 'Gerry'- the amazing sports osteopath on Friday with my poorly ankle. It turns out I have the SAME PROBLEM that I had before! Who would have thought that ankle pain= weak bum muscle... In 2014 it was groin pain = weak bum muscle.. so all roads lead back to my BUM!!

He has agreed that I can continue to run a slow mile daily so I dont break my run streak ( today will be 183) and he thinks it will take the Summer before I can run again.... I am fed up, I wont lie. I miss my woods and an October marathon is off, but a December one might be a goer.

I have some excruciating BUM exercises to do which he has promised will make me a better runner so hell yes I will do them!!

Anyone else had similar?

The only problems bum problems i had when running was this one time when i ate to many gels, I won't go into details.

but keep doing the exercises and don't be a lazy runner like me.

God yes- gels dont agree with me either!! Since when are you a lazy runner???

since, i dont do any stretching ever! , lunges, strength exercises, or any other extra's your suppose to do other than running!

Sounds like a bummer (ha ha) but at least you know what it is now. Grit your teeth and bear it until you're back in shape. It's amazing how the cause of ago can be so distant from the area of pain.

I know!! I have so much respect for these guys that can work this stuff out. He knew the problem the second he saw me running!!

They are the ones who took that "the hip bone's connected to the thighbone" song at school more seriously than the rest of us. Thank goodness. Kiddo has decided that he wants to study medicine to work in sports - here's to having my own personal masseur :D

Not that particular problem, no, but I've also had experience with aches and pains where the source was far from obvious. Good luck with your recovery!

I am sitting here post walking the dogs and the grandchild, and thinking that I should crack on with some non run day exercises while they are all now asleep, but not actually getting up to do them...

*gets up to do them*

Do you know what a slow mile is ju-ju- ? I hope he explained in detail and wrote it all down for you....

Drive to wood, run mile in wood, at least some days... you need the woods.

Rotten news but I suppose it is better than "Dunno, this has got me stumped" and a plan of action that should see you right.

That is bad news :( Hope you can compensate in some way over the summer - swimming maybe?

What are the exercises?

Thankyou, I am upping my spinning and bodypump but its not the same. I have 2 specific exercises: a balance one where I stand on one leg and twist. 2. I lie on my side, knee up and then lift the upper leg slowly parallel to my hip and down again. That is soooo painful ( if done properly!!)

I've done the usual glut exercises and hoped that they would strengthened the hamstrings, legs etc as i am prone to injury. You feel the stretch at the time of doing the exercise but tend to recover immediately. I did a boot camp at the gym last week which consisted of lots of HIIT exercises like burpees, squats, bunny hops, star jumps, lunges, double lunges etc etc. It really felt that someone had kicked me up the bum and was still kicking me 2 days afterwards. I know slowly and consistently is the way to strengthen your gluts but i really felt that those exercises hit parts of my bum that moderate stretching and lunges have failed to reach. I would advise anyone to try double lunges to strengthen the gluts.

That sounds fab!! I do bodypump twice a week and we do loads of lunges and squats with weights etc and I am feeling the difference to my overall strength.... but I do really need to try the HIIT stuff which they do at the gym as well...

My first thought when I read the title to this post was, Blimey, if JJs having problems with *her* bum, then there no hope for the rest of us!! Stick with it Sweetie, your man sounds like he knows his stuff, so you'll soon be back, faster, stronger and even more toned than ever xx

Good luck with those juju, hope you get it all sorted and you can reward yourself with another pair of groovy shorts ( do they do silver as well as gold??) stick with it, i am amazed at your running streak its brilliant!! :)

Sorry to hear that, Ju. Perhaps you can do your slow mile in the woods.

I know what you mean about pain not being where it's caused. I go to my chiropractor complaining about a sore elbow and she adjusts my shoulder, or I whinge about my knee and she adjusts my lower back. Then that makes something else ache for a few days because I have been holding myself wrongly to protect everything. Bah!

Keep going with your running streak, you are fab!
