Has your Thyroid been checked? I note that you have been taking Nature Thyroid and wonder if that could be contributing to issues with your Thyroid which might look like symptoms of Dementia.. Just a thought.. Eliminating all other possible causes before getting that diagnosis of Dementia is a vital part of the process..

My Mum has been hypothyroid for 30 years and been on levothyroxine all that time. A few years ago after having all the symptoms of low thyroid since my children were born 18 years ago and saying that my Mum had low thyroid the doctor finally gave me a test and I had low thyroid and was put on levothyroxine, straight onto too high a dose with no testing and I had a heart attack. I now know what to look for on the thyroid test results and Mum has been diagnosed with vascular dementia in the summer 2015. I insisted she had a thyroid test for T3 and it came back in October 2015 as 2.6 (3.1-6.8). I took the results to my endo Dr P and he said that her T3 was way too low and taking T4 was making it toxic, Mum is 91. So I have written to the doctors, her usual was on holiday, the locum wouldn't do anything, waited for her doctor to get back and then couldn't even get a telephone appointment for over a month. So rang in as wanting an emergency appointment and finally got to talk to her but she said it would have to go to an endocrinologist and that she would write a letter. I am still waiting. But in this time I sent off for some T3 myself and yesterday gave her a very low first dose as told by Dr P. This morning I walked in to be greeted by Mum, beaming all over her face, looking very smart and chatting away. She had breakfast, had done the dishes, an absolutely amazing transformation, no repeating herself, she was full of life, happy giggling and I shed tears of joy. It peetered off during the afternoon and I gave her a slither early evening. Mum was ok before but slow and with a bad short term memory and kept repeating everything. I would go in and find her in bed still at midday, or she wouldn't want any breakfast saying she wasn't hungry. What are these doctors doing to our elderly, Dr P said he wondered how many elderly where in care homes when their T3 is the problem. Mum's doctor knew she was under the lowest limit and yet wouldn't do anything about it despite Dr P writing notes on her results as to the dosage she should be taking and why. It would be the best Christmas present ever if I go round tomorrow and I am again greeted by my Mum at the door, I shall shed a few more tears of joy, welcome back Mum.
