Eye Pain

Hi everyone, I am feeling abit sorry for myself, yesterday I had my six injection in my left eye and my third loading injection in my right eye, apart from suddenly feeling very very painful pressure while having the jab, I developed a really painful right eye, it felt as if my eye was on fire, it also hurt when I closed it, I have had this once before but come the next morning all better, however after well over 24hrs it is still so sore, I have been useing the drops that the hospital gives out every couple of hours, still no relief. Anyway thank you for reading my post, everybody keep safe.

If it continues I think you should contact the eye clinic as it should not feel like that, I had injections in both eyes yesterday, I only felt a bit of pressure in the one eye and did not realise the other eye had been done until I saw the fluid. No pain after at all

Hello NettRoy, certainly contact the eye clinic, to make sure all is well, I had an injection yesterday, and they do vary somewhat, yesterday I did feel a lot of pressure, and i always think the clamp to hold the eye open is sometimes more uncomfortable than the actual injection. But today all is well, no pain, and vision as normal. Best wishes and good luck.

I would for sure check with clinic - eye pressure can be lowered easily if it stayed high. High eye pressure is very bad so please please go for a check.

Hi NettRoy. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It could be too much iodine but I would definitely get it checked just to be on the safe side. You should have been given telephone numbers to ring in case of any problems such as increasing redness or pain over the first few days after so I would ring and tell them of your problem. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted. x

Deeep sympathy netroy. Ask for an aneAsthetic injection of lidocaine prior to the jag. Must be left five Minutes to take effect. Pain afterwards probably due to iodine. You can have an alternative to iodine as well. You’ll probably have to fight to get what you need. Have had both of these situations. Horrific.. recommend you look up painful injections on this site. A lot of us have had this situation. All the best to you.

It could be too much iodine as already suggested, or it could be that the person doing the injection scratched the eye accidentally. I've had both happen. See the clinic asap anyway, to ease your mind.

My RS says to use eyedrops every hour for the rest of the injection day AND the following day. Really helps me along with Tylenol.

Dear NettRoy,

Please contact us direct for our leaflet on pain following injections. You could use this as a discussion point with your ophthalmologist. If you have not done so already, then it would be worth contacting them via their secretary, so that they can hopefully identify the source of the problem, and put in measures to guard against it happening next time.

The Macular Society Advice and Information Service is open 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday on 0300 3030 111.
