Update on new anti-VEGF

I had a review and by-monthly injection on my left eye yesterday that is my good eye! I received good news to say that it it was dry and Eyelea was working well for me, 10 days ago I had new of the deterioration of the wet right eye, so that must be seen each month promptly.

I thought I would ask the consultant about the new drug for us Brolucizumab a new anti-VEGF drug that, in phase III clinical trials, that can last as long as 12 weeks between treatments. FDA approval is expected in 2019.

She was a little more communicative this visit and said yes, she was looking forward to having more effective anti-VEGF drugs that will give us a longer periods between injections, she mentioned even every 6 months which would be great!

I asked her if she thought it will be available on the NHS, she was hopeful but said it must get through each trust.

I further read that that Novartis the makers of Brolucizumab are going to work on it be be given by eye drops and ocular implant. Let’s hope this will be soon.

Thanks for positive post. We need to hear good news. 6 monthly injections or even better eye drops would be a game changer for us all. Fingers and toes crossed it happens sooner rather than later.

Glad you have had good results for your left eye this time. I go for my review on Friday.

Thanks for your lovely message, yes let’s hope we have these new treatments , hopefully 2020 we may see the new injection.

The phase III trial of Brolucizumab is coming to an end and results released so far look good so Novartis and NICE are gearing up for it to become available as a treatment.

Abicipar pegol is in a similar position.

Last injection I noticed that the doctor gave me a numing injection first before the lucentis injection. Anyone have this two injection. I've been getting injection for three years and I never noticed first a numing needle then lucentis.

Thanks for your message, my good eye that was wet is now dry and better news bimonthly injection, my right eye has deteriorated somewhat when the injections were tried at 6 weeks, so back on prompt monthly. Hopeful it will go back. But we must be positive. How are you doing? Thinking of you.

Sorry for delay in replying, had lots going on - friends and family, not me for once. I'm waiting on my review end of July. Have now finished books 1&2 and halfway through 3rd in my trilogy so I'm pretty happy lol. Its been a great distraction. Hope you're doing well x

Thank you. That’s fantastic positive news ....can’t come soon enough as now having injections in both eyes - and two days ago had both done at the same time! My eldest brother lost his sight due to AMD 15 years ago so it is amazing how much progress has been made over the last decade. I wonder how many people have had their sight saved to date ...anyone got the figures?
