Bioptic Driving Glasses

Hello! Thank you to everyone who responds regularly to people's posts! I find this forum very helpful.

Question: Does anyone here drive with the Bioptic Driving Glasses? I'm only 50 and I've dipped below legal driving. I thought I could navigate getting around with uber and lyft and the township bus but it isn't working out as well as I would have though.

I have experimented with these glasses years ago when my vision started getting bad but I found them difficult to use and they hurt my neck from how I had to hold my head (I have several herniated cervical vertebrae.)

The Dr. suggests I give them another try and this time go through the driving program that assists me in using them.

One of my biggest concerns is my neck comfort. So if you use them and have any insight to share I'd love to hear it.

If you got them but didn't end up using them I'd love to hear your experience and reason for not using them.

Thanks ;)

Hi mararay

Glad this forum has helped you. It has me too.

I haven't heard of these glasses before. How do they help?

I'm still legal to drive fortunately but realise that could change in the future.

I live in the US so I'm not sure all countries use them. Here are a few videos.

Fascinating. Thanks again.

What an extreme contrast the LV in the US to the LV (that I go to) in England. They can't even get me anti-reflective filter glasses that the ophthalmologist says I need for glare/severe light sensitivity and advised I wear a hat indoors.

Hello. I'm not familiar with the health care in England. Do you know why there is such a difference to what is available?

in reply to mararay

Hi Mararay,

This is the National Health Service's Low Vision this is not a private Low Vision Clinic. I would be more than happy to pay for the glasses that I need, if I knew where I could find where I could source them. I managed to get a pair of anti-reflective filter glasses from one optician, but it was a very difficult procedure and the filters are too dark for indoor use..

Hi Candie

Any particular sort of hat? Woolleyhat, Sun hat, Peaked cap, Stetson maybe? 2

in reply to 2468G

Hi 2, I must admit I was so stunned when LV told me I could wear a hat indoors, I completely forgot to ask what type of hat he would suggest? He wasn't joking. He then admitted that I needed anti-reflective glasses and that they now do anti-reflective filter glasses,

When it comes to my eye condition I have a sense of humour failure. I don't understand how anyone, that is on this this board because they an eye disease can find someone else's eye condition funny because they don't understand it, it is a joke.

I have never heard of these glasses before. Are they sold in the UK?

Are they for daytime and night time driving? I no longer drive at night but still manage in the day time, although I do not drive very far now, just locally.

RP1944 I don't know if they are sold/used in the UK. I tried to Google search it and it looked like they did but I could not get any concrete info so I'm not sure. They can be used for night time too but I don't know the details on that either. I'm glad you can still drive during the day ;)
