Hi has anyone been on eplerenone for Csr? I am to begin this next week. Distorted vision in right eye. Maculer swelling in both - it's to reduce the fluid. Also getting torn retina lasered.

Terrified 😞

Hi oggy123, first sending you a hug x

Don't know anything about the drug you mention ( the macular society may do, check out their website) but if it's given by inj into the eye then probably same procedure as lucentis, eyelea, avastin for wetmd and vein occlusion, oedema .

You can search here for posts on the inj, there are lots! We've just recently given someone else notes on it - I'll see if I can find it for you and edit this reply with the info.

It's not as bad as you think. We're all terrified the first time and I can't say it gets easy but does get easier. There's every chance it will work for you so worth sticking with it. Best wishes going forward.

Ps see post from guitarman Waiting to start Eyelea.

Thanks so much for that.

It's the stress hormone cortisol in my body which caused the Csr. Eplerenone reduces cortisone and acts as a diuretic. Fingers crossed now for little to no side effects!

Thank you again x

Hello there! Did you get started with the Eplerenone and how are you getting on? Hope it’s working for you. I’ve just started today on 25mg for first 4 weeks...

Hi,

I’ve been taking 50mg since October. Subretinol fluid reduced significantly, distorted vision improved, but lack of color and a dark spot in central vision.....then 2 weeks ago I was back to square one with a new leak. Sight worse than ever now.

My fresh leak was undoubtedly due to a very stressful event 2 days before my last scan. Confirming for me that stress- cortisol- is the absolute culprit.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. Do hope it improves again for you. Sounds like Eplerenone may not be a long term solution then! Such an awful condition and hard not to be anxious or stressed!

Have you ever had or been offered PDT?

Kittyfitz profile image
Kittyfitz in reply to Dipper2

Thank you.

According to my consultant it would be worse without eplerenone...however I’m wondering.

He is giving it another 4 weeks before considering micro pulse laser as opposed to pdt- it’s a thermal option and seemingly safer than pdt to seal the leak. I’m not keen at all tbh. I had lasted on my good eye to seal a detached retina and it hurt like hell.

How long have you had CSR? It’s a condition that needs so much more research, I’m not sure anyone knows enough about it

Poor you. I’ve had it 7 weeks, but worsened about a week ago as fluid moved/new leak formed in more central location

Oh no , I’m sorry to hear that. It’s scary as hell, but the more you worry, the worse it seems.

Easier said than done!

It’s a bitch of a thing. But now I’m one hundred percent confident it’s stress related, I gave up decongestants, antihistamines, everything down to paracetamol, eat well, exercise etc and the new leak was purely cortisol related.

It certainly is!! Scary how suddenly it appears. I’m absolutely sure stress related too. I’m trying to decide if Eplerenone is really way to go or just stress and anxiety management - or maybe both! Sending you healing thoughts

Are you on Facebook? I’m joined a very good CSR group there

I am on FB so will look, thanks, what is page called? X

I can only find a reference to Eplerenone taken in tablet form and used as a diuretic.

It is one of those meds where grapefruit juice is prohibited.

There is more information here medlineplus.gov/druginfo/me...

I managed my CSR, it was bad, i was terrified too. It has gone back to normal. I got on with Life Vantage and their patented herbal treatment for NRF1 and NRF2. I juiced, got healthier diet, exercised, made sure I slept well. And you can see results in a couple of weeks. I would try this before doing all the other stuff. Manage you health. I am going to start helping people. Your body can heal. Reach out if you want to try!

Thanks for that @rayharjo, it's uplifting to say the least to know others have overcome this.

It's a wake up call for me big time.

Hi Oggy, how did you get on with the Eplerenone, I’m having a reoccurrence of CSR, third in 12 months and while it’s resolved quickly both previous times I’m worried about vision loss if it continues to occur.

Going to ask my consultant tomorrow.

Kittyfitz profile image
Kittyfitz in reply to ramsayn

Hi Ramsayn,

I’m not having side effects, the subretinol fluid has reduced but my sight is worse as they is still some fluid there and it’s damaging my retina the longer it stays. My consultant says to stay on eplerenone for another 6 months and hopes it will eventually clear. How are you?

Off to the eye hospital today to discuss laser treatment. My GP practice has decided not to prescribe Eplerenone due to concerns about it being unlicensed and possible side effects. I’ll discuss it with my ophthalmologist today.

Still have some distortion in my left eye although it’s better than it was.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
