Frustrated as no answers yet!!

I hope you all had a good Easter.

I am getting stressed as I wrote to the consultant in charge of the eye clinic where I had the 2 very painful corneal abrasions last month - via pals as can't do it directly- and still have had no reply. Pals said he told them he would speak to nurses in charge of injections and then respond.- A month now and no reply.

I asked him for re-assurance about the requirement for minimum talking ( have got good studies to support this which I will have to take to next appt if no satisfaction!!) careful insertion of the speculum and, for others, letter with when and where to ring - with problems- always had this at the branch I was attending before it started to be re-furbished. Any ideas on how to proceed would be welcome!!

I am getting concerned I think because it won't be easy to do battle over this at the same time as having my appointment!!

Very frustrating. I would chase PALS for the drs answer confirming what has been done. They are the ones to chase the Dr for you. Make the point that you want it sorted before x date ie your next inj. Good luck!

Thankyou!!

If you have made an official complaint which I think you have, there are processes that the hospital need to go through before you are given a reply. The matron will be in charge of investigating the complaint, and they will respond to you.

No I haven’t made an official complaint and had to ask PALS to send on my email as can’t do it directly. I think it’s best to make suggestions first but frustrating when no answers! The hospital concerned has reply to complaints policy which would have meant a guaranteed reply by now

Yes all hospitals do, it may be delayed due to Easter though.

Think may be different as I haven’t done it as a complaint

Sorry rosyG for not responding sooner to your chat. I had a few days on the Isle of Wight with our walking club, a very enjoyable distraction. I am also sorry that you still feel so bad about what has happened to you and the response you got. These things should never happen, but they do occasionally and will go on to happen from time to time. I think that the biggest problem is that we are not given the time to talk about our concerns and explain exactly how we feel and to receive adequate answers. I am sure that half of my concerns have not even been recorded because I feel I have to ask over and over again. I have not seen or had a chance to have a conversation with a consultant for over 7 months to ask questions about the present state of both of my eyes - just scans and more appointments and injections, when very little is said. I know how hard-pressed the medical staff is, but that is no consolation for any of us who are concerned. I personally feel, I am being left in the dark. So, rosy, it seems we just have to grin and bear it. Have you ever asked what the present state of your condition is, and if so, who did you ask? Or are you being told?

Thank you Ayayay

Good to hear you have had a break- I love the Isle of Wight.

I think the stress is because I am going to have to inform the staff about no talking and care with speculum insertion at the same time as preparing myself for the injection!! PALS have suggested I ask to see the consultant that day to discuss with him so I'll see how it goes. There are lots of references for minimum talking so I don't understand his reply and it is worrying if they are not being careful enough!! Thank you for replying- I hope your treatment is going well. I'll let you know how I get on after 1st May!!
