Exhaustion after Eylea

I know not everyone has the same side affects. I am on my 2nd Eylea Injection and find myself exhausted. Does any one know how long the exhaustion will last? I felt better this morning for the first time since my injection 8 days ago, but am heading to bed for a nap then I sleep all night too which isn't like me.

Hi midancer.

Yes, of course, we are all different and react to treatment differently, but if this is only your second injection (probably 4 weeks ago) you should not feel exhausted for a week or more afterwards. Are you in pain for that length of time? If so, it could be understandable. Also: injections can behave like an injury and your body may go into a mild state of shock and blood pressure drops. Most people tolerate the injections quite well, but some people do feel exhausted eventually after a large number of injections, especially if they get stressed out over it - and for most of us it is stressful.

My advice is to see your GP and have him check you out, just in case something else is going on.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hello midancer

When I started having injections I too felt exhausted, & it is likely that it is due to the stress and general worry about the procedure. Now, having had 20 plus injections, I only occasionally feel excessively tired, but probably due to having to get up earlier!

Just one tip, I take one prescribed sleeping tablet the night before, so I am fully rested and worry less.

Best wishes

I think it is generally felt that this is a stress related problem rather than some side effect of the drug. I hear the same thing reported with Avastin and Lucentis.

I had an offbeat systemic reaction to that drug so I'm back on avastin and am better

yes I feel exhausted for 6 days after the injection - this is not due to stress. My legs hurt and I cannot go about my normal life

I used to feel exhausted for up to 48 hours after an injection, which I put down to shock / stress and the reaction got less as I got used to it

Then I started having Diamox (acetazolamide) as cover to prevent pressure spikes and that tends to give me a hangover (really)

But 8 days seems like a long time.

Although I feel for you - 8 days is a very long time - I was relieved to read your post because I have felt exhausted the day of and most of the next day with each Eylea injection. I have had 5 or 6 of these now and the exhaustion is pretty much the same each time, yet when I search for side effects this does not seem to be listed as even a rare possibility. How I cope is to plan to go home and rest after each injection, not to need to cook much that night, and expect to not be good for much the next day. It's not great, but the alternative of losing my central vision is much worse. I remind myself to appreciate this - my mother never had this kind of treatment and I witnessed what wet macular degeneration was like for her. I have no doubt that she would have gladly endured the exhaustion if she could have had these injections. That said, I hope you reaction will become milder as your body becomes more accustomed to the treatments.

I also am tired but I think mine r due to stress over the pain of it all I generally do not do anything day of injections and the next day depends on the weather if it’s windy out I stay home I am also very grateful for these injections because it sure beats the alternative find some good movies to watch and have a jammie day lol
