One year on

Its just over a year ago since I was diagnosed with WMD ,referred by my dentist. By time I got seen at eye clinic the bleeding had stopped. Since then I have had eye scans every 2/3 month. Each time I have been told my eye is stable. I have had no symptoms and have noticed no deterioration in my sight,it is all so surreal. I am grateful I am being monitored ,but wonder if this pattern is normal or have I just been very fortunate. I live in fear of having another bleed .

Hi Lizjim,

It will be interesting to hear from other posters if they have had similar experiences.

Quite often a bleed does go undetected for a while as it is relatively small and is not noticeable to the person with it. It is then picked up at a routine eye test.

It is pleasing to note that you are still being monitored by the hospital; are you in the UK?

Do you have an 'amsler grid' to self monitor your eyes in the interim?

If you would like one, and have a chat further, please call the Macular Society helpline on 0300 30 30 111 (9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday).

Best wishes

I live in Scotland yes I got Amsler grid when I was first diagnosed and use it regularly.

Hi lizjim, sending you a hug x I don't have your condition but understand the fear of problems returning.

I dont know the stats but sounds like you have been lucky. Easy to say I know but don't let the fear of an unknown tomorrow spoil the good of today. Let the fear go and just enjoy your life. You are being monitored so if anything happens they will catch and treat it.

All you need do is use the amsler grid weekly which will give you reassurance. Best wishes going forward x

Hi Lizjim

I understand your anxiety. Yes, I think you have been lucky, if any temporary or permanent health problem can be called lucky. Long may your luck last.

What puzzles me is, you say you were referred by your "dentist". How did he know there was something wrong with your eye? I am intrigued. Would be interested to know.

Best wishes

Life can seem to be one long senior moment ! I went for an injection on Thursday and was talking to a woman in your position - keeps going back for checks but no treatment. We all just have to learn the art of patience with this disease it seems!

Hi lizjim, you were lucky I had a similar experience but by the time I was seen by the eye hospital I had lost my central vision in my right eye. Have had a slight bleed in left eye but injections are ongoing figures crossed
