Cataracts

Hi i just been told i have cataracts in both eyes i am 61 years been getting alot of blurry vision so went for a check. I didn't get referred to hospital, or told to inform my doctor. they will watch how things go. Can i still drive, thru. nothing put on my prescription about it. What should i look out for if it gets worse.

cataracts tend to grow slowly but I'm concerned you have blurry vision

I'd be inclined to see my doctor anyway and get the blurriness checked out

ok thanks, i am wondering if i need to change things around my home to prepare myself for the worse.

I think that depends on why you are having blurriness-cataracts grow slowly and you can have them removed- just look into what's causing the present problem

If it was me having such blurry vision I would go to my doctor and ask for a referral to eye clinic. If you have cataracts they can be removed, however the NHS is never in a hurry to remove them due to cost cutting. Hopefully the consultant at eye clinic will be helpful and explain things to you . With hindsight, if it was me, I would find an optician with OCT equipment and have the health of my eyes checked. It will probably cost you - not a fortune, but at least you wouldn't have months of worry waiting for appointments. Good luck, take care, eyes are very precious.

hi, slightly blurred vision is a very common symptom of cataracts due to the 'fogging' or opacity on your lens. It is also very common for the optician to decide not to refer to for surgery as the procedure is very invasive, so it is recommended to wait until the cataract is affecting the patients lifestyle and then deemed necessary. If you failed to meet driving standards whilst reading the chart during your test, the optician would have to advise you that you are no longer safe. You can check with your opticians by just calling up and asking to be on the safe side as they will have a not of your measured visual acuity.
