Virtual Clinic

I went for my hospital appointment on Wednesday 16th, where I was told that it was a virtual clinic and all they did was a OCT and eye chart test and they sent me home. Today I received a letter saying diagnosis: left small inactive macular retinal pigment epithelial changes relating to an old phototoxicity. I was just wondering as anyone else had this virtual clinic, as I am left with more question and no Doctor to answer them.

Hello Purrpot,

I suggest that if you know the name of your consultant that you try and call their secretary at the hospital and ask for the consultant or someone else to call you back with an explanation.

Please call the Macular Society helpline 0300 30 30 111 (9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday) if you would like to discuss further.

Best wishes

I went to a bank today and had to talk to a virtual teller! I was horrified about it. Now I am even more horrified to learn that there are virtual eye clinics. Nothing to add but my sympathy! I do hope personal interaction isn't something we only remember.

It appears that it would be more accurate to describe this as "Virtually no clinic"!!

Appalling that these changes are made arbitrarily and with no prior notice. I would be livid if it happened to me because I travel each way 1 1/2hrs to one clinic and 5hrs+ with an overnight to another. Wasted time not to mention the costs involved

I have also been given Virtual appointments and found them unsatisfactory,as there are no medical staff to answer questions. Having to wait for a letter to see if further injections are required, and then join the queue for an appointment, delays the interval between treatments. I no longer accept this type of follow up. All the best.

How do you stop being given a virtual appointment, Bench 57? I would be interested to know just in case I am being palmed off too with a virtual clinic in the future.

I phoned the clinic to argue for a Dr's clinic appointment. I have also contacted the Consultant's Secretary when I have any query.
