Injections

I was recently diagnosed with wet macular degeneration, I am 38 years old. I am receiving injections and I am wondering how much pain afterward is normal. For a full day or longer I feel as tho my eye is simultaneously on fire and about to explode. That is as close to describing it as I can. It is to the point of being almost unbearable. Is this normal?

Some people react to the iodine which is put into the eye to help clean it before the injection some people have reported a lot of pain because of the iodine so request a flush out of it afterwards. Could it be the iodine do you think?

My hospital give me drops called evolve (carmellose) which are taken 4 times a day for 5 days and soothe the eye a lot- worth asking about this

So sorry to hear that you are having so much pain after injections. I found that I had different degrees of pain, discomfort, and length of time, depending on who did the injection. I've had very sore runny eyes for as long as a week. Also times when after a night's sleep, I was almost back to normal. I read on this forum about iodine being the cause of so much discomfort. Since I have asked the injector, on every visit, to go easy on the iodine, I haven't had so much to complain about. Have you told the person injecting, exactly what you are experiencing? Your description of the pain sounds really awful.

Wishing you good luck for the next time.

Hi Helen,

I had very sore eyes for 2-3 days after my first injection and every now and again still have soreness, but most of the time it is only a little sore for a few hours and is usually very minor the following day so for me the experience varies. I do agree that it's best to tell the doctors when you go back for your follow up appointment and also when you go back if you're going to have further injections. I think that washing the iodine out thoroughly helps a good deal x

I had my second injection of Lucentin two days ago and since then I have been experienceing severe pain in my joints. Normally I am quite active and free from pain although I am 86. I am wondereing if I have had a reaction to the drug although the first injection went smoothly. I am really worried about this and quite frightened as at the moment I can't get arounf without hobbling and am finding it difficult and very painful to get in an d out of chairs. Has anyone else experienced this effect and does it disappearf in time?
