Has anyone experienced soreness and bleeding inside the nose. Could be related to Sjorgrens syndrome?

All I can say is that, with sjorgens, I have soreness, dryness, and bleeding inside my nose. There are nasal sprays both from the doctor or from the chemists that will help the problem. When my nose feels dry I use a spray for a few days or so until it eases.

Best of luck

Lupus can also cause ulcers in nose & mouth. So I suppose if you've got Sjogren's as well you're more likely to suffer in this way.

Mine tend to come when I'm in a lupus flare. But fortunately don't last too long. If it's a persistent problem it might be a good idea to let your rheumy knowm so then can check your levels of disease activity & alter meds accordingly.

Best wishes. X

I too have bleeding from my nose due to sjorgrens. I have been given Naseptin nasal cream which works almost instantly in stopping the bleeding and dryness. Be warned, it contains peanut oil!!

Thankyou for posting this question, I too have dryness, soreness and occasional bleeding but had dismissed it because in the scale of things it wasn't causing me too many problems. Will now (thanks to your question) add it to my list of symptoms to tell consultant when I see them next month.

It goes to show how sharing our experiences on this site helps us all, as otherwise I probably wouldn't have considered it a symptom or even mentioned to the professionals.

Thanks,

Slowmo

I find sticking some vaseline up your nose helps with the dryness and sometimes wards off ulcers because dry skin is more prone to infection. Antibacterial cream from the gp also cleared ulcers quickly.

hi. yes i've been managing these sort of nose probs for years too. after a while i became resistant to naaseptin, eventually, and now am prescribed bactroban which works pretty good too. i try to catch any cracks or ulcers immediately they begin to hurt, because the longer i leave them the worse they become and the longer they take to heal up etc

the vaseline trick can be helpful, but my ENT consultant & my rheumy recommend all neilmed sinurinse products because regular rinsing of nasal passages helps to keep them healthier which means less bacteria in there to make for infected ulcers etc in the nose. you can get neilmed products from most good chemists & from amazon too. i douche mu nostrils once a week at least. the nasal douche can be a but tricky to learn how do, but once you get the hang of it wow it's great: feels as good afterwards as scrubbing your teeth. my rheumy & ent say that's a good analogy: if we have sicca symptoms and sjogrens, we need to take extra care of both our nasal/sinus passages and our mouths/teeth etc.

apparently weleda also do a lovely rhinosomething (sorry forget the name) spray which i am going to try soon - it has been recommended by a very experienced member of this forum.

take care

I was prescribed a saline douche and didnt like it, it burned my skin after a while, made it really sore. I now use vaseline and Diprobase which is very good for the dryness that leads to a sore nose but have stopped the sprays. Does anyone know of a safe, salt free douche you can buy??

Used to get nose bleeds, they seem to have stopped and bleeding inside my nose has stopped as well, I assume because of the ointments I use

...should add I was diagnosed with Sjogrens and Raynauds a few years ago, shortly after they tested me positive for SLE, and I'm reliably told they are all interelated

I've had this for years and was always told it was nothing to do with lupus! I ended up seeing an ear nose and throat specialist as I've now developed a hole in my septum and rather amusingly he asked me if I used recreational drugs!!!!!! I too have been using naseptin and Bactroban which help, plus a nasal spray. I was advised to have a 'button' placed into the hole which apparently would help with the persistent infections from it bleeding all the time, however I never received another appointment so haven't been back to see the specialist!

I have the same problem. Using a 'dollop' of aloe vera gel, on going to bed, helps me. xxx :)

yes I get nasal ulcers thought it was to do with Lupus often when blowing my nose it bleeds not a lot thankfully as I used to have dreadful nosebleeds as a child.

I am prone to coldsores, so always thought that was why my nose was sore and crusty aswell as irregular nosebleeds and then.... like you all found out it was lupus and sjorgens. I notice if i'm coming into a bit of a flare, caught an infection my nose gets lots of sores. Also sometimes i have to be careful with the bloodthinners I am on as they tend to cause nosebleeds my rheumy said when this happens to lower the dose by 1 tablet (from 3 tabs to 2 tabs) sometimes does work. :)

I have been experiencing this too for years and after two years of using different nose sprays I stopped as the were just causing more pain and bleeding. I've seen a Ears nose throat specialist who has put me down to get my tonsils removed next year. He never explained why this was effecting my nose but hopefully after 7years of this it will help!
