I think you might need to ask a doctor about this one. The doses we take of Hydroxychloroquine are HUGE compared to the malaria dose, I think.... so I'd say some caution is needed. Ask a Doctor - that's my advice.

You will have to, hydroxy doesn't have the active ingredient anymore. But check with your doctor, he/she know what else you're on that could be impacted.

Please take this question to your Doctor,as they are the only ones to give you that advice.

Hope you have a lovely holiday.

take care xx

Yes. U can take a short course of another antimalarial drug (3 to 5 days) with active ingredient Arthemisinin if u ever contacted malaria in the country. Otherwise, hydroxy is enough.

Believe me, I have lived most of my life in a malaria-infested country. And lupus has turned me into some sort of a pharmacist/doctor.

But it is really good to talk to your rheumy about it. See what he has to offer...

Have a nice day.

depends where you are going. I take Malarone when visiting South Africa (Kruger) I get a prescription then order online as it is cheaper....my whole family do this and it works very well. I also take a mosquito cocoon to sleep in and spray it before I go to bed. No a single bite:)

Hi my consultant told me I can continue to take my Quinine tablet at night for restless legs with my Hydroxichloroquine, but I must inform them if they want to vaccinate against Malaria when going abroad, So I would check with G.P as I don't think they can vaccinate for it. Hope this helps Love an Light
