Folic acid deficiency?

Hi all, just wondered if anyone else has folic acid deficiency? I take azathioprine, hydroxychloroquine, prednisolone, morpheine, pregabalin, celebrex and others. Could it be to do with those or is it the lupus? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Jenny x

I had to take folic acid supplements while I was on azathioprine I still take it but only twice a week now but I am now on Mycophenolate along with pred and others. I think my GP said it was the azathioprine that caused the folic acid deficiency in the first place.

Yes, I had pernicious anaemia a few years back and had to have B12 injections and folic acid. Apparantley these 2 go side by side. I was taken off the B12 but kept on the folic acid. I am also on azathioprine but take it daily, and prednisolone. So your GP is probably right about the aza causing folic acid deficiency.

Thanks for the advice, just to clarify, I'm also on 150mg aza daily but the rheumatologist said it wasn't very likely that it was the medication causing the deficiency and my dad and grandma both have celiac disease so just wanted to check if anyone had had a smiliar experience. Take care x

im not diagnosed as yet but within a few weeks my bloods altered, im on a "flare" and now on 5mg folic acid, only other constant is raised esr level. profesional head on now people with celiac disease can have iron deficiency due to intestinal malabsorption. celiac disease is hereditary so please get checked out, take care, good luck.
