Gentle iron supplements

My rheumy gave me ferrous sulphate as ferritin levels are only 8 but it gave me an upset stomach. I've since tried ferrous gluconate which had the same effect. Anyone know what else I can take that won't cause stomach cramping and upset stomach?

i cant advise on iron suppliments but eat anything dark green veggie wise; especially peas. if you not a great veggie lover eat natural liquorice its full of iron and yummy! of course red meats etc too.

I am taking lots of high iron foods but it's so low that I need a supplement too. Has anyone tried feroglobulin? Has this been any better at reducing stomach irritation/upset stomach? I'm eating greens, pumpkin seeds, red meat and liquorice but feratin level at 8 is well below normal levels of 70-100!

Yes, I have tried feroglobulin and found it good. Recommended it to a lot of others who also found it helped. Didn't upset stomach (Ihave digestion probs.) and raised ferritin quite a bit.

Hope this helps - and good luck

All the supplements prescribed from my GP upset my stomach, so now I just buy 'Spatone' from the chemist (it's iron water & 28 saches costs around the same as a prescription) I take them with fruit juice to help absorption. I usually need to take double the recommended amount to keep my iron levels up. It's much gentler on the stomach. And I try to eat lots of leafy greens in my diet too.

Thanks for your answer. Will be a case of trial and error till I find one that suits! The teenagers in my house keep complaining about having so many greens! I've told them they need to be healthy too!!
