There is a genetic connection though not alway. My auntie and great grandmother on my dads side of the family both had lupus. I have not yet had a diagnosis but my rhuemie has noted the family history. Xx
My mom had lupus and i am displaying some of the same symptoms,gp has referred me to a rheumatologist xx
They say its not hereditary but once you have a weak point in the DNA strand it can cause more auto immune problems.
Ok my fathers side in 3 generations we have 5 confirmed lupus (inc me) numerous Raynauds (inc me), Crohn's disease, IBS, Sarcoidosis (me) etc etc etc. so something is going on. Unfortunately of the original 5 brothers on the top of the 3 generations have died and we have no medical information prior to them otherwise they would have been tested as my specialist has never seen such a medical history in such a small cluster.
I have twin boys and was diagnosed after they were born and I do wonder what the future holds for them.
Best wishes Helen
As helentad said above. I have SLE, one of my sisters has MS, my Mum is Coeliac.. Also my Mum's cousin and her daughter have some kind of Lupus (we're not really that close) and another male relative on my Mum's side had MS x
Hi, I have 2 sisters that have lupus as well as my self and I know that their is rheumatoid arthritis in the family too. Also my mum, 2 sisters and 2 nieces have coeliac. I have 3 daughters myself and have had my eldest tested but she doesn't carry the lupus gene, and am waiting til my other 2 daughters are a but older to have them tested too. Have also been told its genetic rather than hereditary x
I'm just the weird one in my family. Don't know of any relatives that have SLE. So I'm the SPECIAL one lol x
