Kay - Ouch! You poor thing. My ideas are as follows:

Hot water bottle (on the calf) and a good night's sleep?

Deep Freeze gel?

Ibuleve Gel?

Basically, I'd suggest anything that will relax it enough to get some proper sleep - sometimes this works well for me (but not always).

I'd be really interested to know if any of these work for you - and to hear everyone else's ideas too.

Hello Kay

Heat Heat and more Heat.

Bed socks & running trousers in bed. Hot baths and heat pads of all descriptions. Pain killers as nec, but dont take them llike smarties as there is always a price to pay.

Heat is the better option.

Also get your CPK tested as this can add to muscle cramps and weakness. If ;you are on statin then try Co enzyme Q10.

Magnesium and potassium! Get some in you asap! Supplements are good but also look up foods containing them - there a lots - humus if you like it is fantastic, beans - especially white, but any kind, sweet potatoes, salmon, whole wheat things, dried apricots, orange juice, almonds, yogurt... (there are loads, just google 'potassium/magnesium rich foods').

I've been suffering *really* badly with cramping in the last 6 months - it starts in my foot but escalates right up into my neck when it's bad. As I couldn't get any doctors to listen I've tried changing my diet - it does seem to help, at least a little.

Your doctor can prescribe a muscle relaxant if it gets really bad (And they listen to you!) as well x

TONIC WATER, I have had that problem for years and as I am on the max' amount of Quinine tabs. for my Lupus my new GP said drink as much tonic water as I do water each day. I get the Diet one and put it in a large jug half and half with water. Then as I am going to get a drink just put a drop of cordial in as well. Have had NO cramps for the last two years. The attendants at the swimming pool I go to also say have tonic water/water. that is what they use when training - so if you see a swimmer with a bottle on the end of the lane, you now know what's in it. GOOD LUCK.xx

Agree with everything above - I also found wearing flight socks to bed helps :)

Quinine!!Always worked for me!However if you don't have any in the fridge.......your other half comes in handy when it strikes while you're in bed!He rotates my foot and the pain soon goes.Failing that I just hobble around as it seems to ease it.Good Luck!xx
