Dare I mention - the "C" word!

Christianity!

I just wanted to share with you that the recent blogs by another member on this site, ref - faith and christianity, which proved personally uplifting and quite popular with a number of other people (unfortunately subsequently blocked) has prompted me to set up a facebook page to allow fellow like minded lupies or those just interested the opportunity to openly discuss and support each other without the risk of upsetting those not quite into the whole thing.

facebook.com/ChristianAutoi...

As this forum encourages it's users to support each other I do hope that the administrators of LupusUK will agree that there was certainly a need for spiritual welbeing support judging by the many positive respones previously written on your site. Hopefully this will provide a more appropriate arena for such discussion. Many Thanx ;-)

It is Sad you had to do this, being Politicly correct does not work all the Time.

One Lady shared her felling though a verse from the Old testament to which a lot of other faiths use,I feel very sorry for this lady it must hurt her so much more that the Lupus she is suffering,I am going to join your site.

I was uplifted by the post you mention which has sadly now been blocked and will now be following your new page on Facebook. I have never posted on this site before but have followed with much interest the support everyone provides here. I have a family member who suffers from lupus and I have gained a lot of insight by all your posts. I am really saddened though that we cannot be accepting of each other regardless of culture, creed, religion etc.

I shall however include everyone in my prayers. Stay strong and blessed xx

My consultant, whilst not adhering to my own beliefs and practises, has always told me that "if it works, use it!" I'm astounded that someone reported someone else for posting something that gave comfort to a number of people. Those who, for whatever reasons were "offended" didn't have to read it. Taking a risk that I too, will be reported allow me please to quote something else from the bible: if thine eye offends thee, pluck it out. If thine ear offends thee, cut it off.

By the way, I'm not a Christian and I'm not offended by the teachings of any belief system, if those teachings are about love, hope and peace.

what a shame! That post helped me so much. Why couldn't the offended person just ignore it? It's not as if the person who posted is trying to take over the site! they were just sharing something that helps them in the hope that it would help others (which obviously, it did!) I'll be joining the new site but it's sad that we have to be segregated into separate `boxes`.

personally i was relieved that this person posted such an uplifting and inspiring post. i am not the most positive person on here having had a very unhappy time with my illness and other issues but this post and all the others that followed made me feel so much better, having some sort of faith has helped millions of people in the past and i suspect in the future to face thier everyday problems. very sad indeed.

Yes I tried to go back to see what others have written and could not. I really don't know what there was to be offended about a lot of people post quite offensive things about their doctors (albeit they did not mention their names) and I don't see those post getting blocked.

Well I will be joining you on facebook.

May God continue to bless us all as we have so much to go through without another stressful moment of being blocked.

I posted the surpriseingly controverisal post but (LoL)it is all about my faith and what i believe in. I am very grateful for all ur support and am also thankful to the Almighty that many found a postive light from the post. We need not be sad at all good thing we have a Facebook site now where we can share our faith (will definitely join).

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? How can a post about faith and love offend?

I am shocked that somebody complained but even more shocked that this site would block such posts. What a sad world we live in.

Blocking this is breach of our human rights, if someone from a nationality had their religious views blocked it would be called victimisation. I'm a practising Christian and this beggars believe that people like you and me who suffer some awful symptoms cannot allow our. Belives to comfort us and thus be shared with others to help aid and who know bring them some peace then this site is not worth being on. I challenge the administrators of this to give us there rational behind their thoughts and wonder if they wish to test discrimination/ viti is action is a court of law

I know exactly what you mean medic1969, that's how I initially felt.

However, it could easily get out of hand and we'd get distracted from the basic message - that there is a God who cares about us, so rather than aggitating the folk that were getting upset, (stating they were getting stressed and ill about it all, which probably erged the admin to block) I sought guidance from a higher authority. I wasn't gonna let it get to me (affect my health also) and strongly believe that this situation can be turned on it's head for the good and would encourage both practicing christians and those purely intigued to get involved with the CALC facebook site.

Hey fellow Lupies (I use the term in all its fullness)

I'm really pleased you have made a Facebook page for your specialist interest. What a brilliant idea you got from a "higher authority".

The use of quotation marks for the word offended is incorrect -- I was not "offended", but found the post inappropriate for this site.

I am part of the "people like you and me who suffer..." so WHERE exactly are you going with this medic1969? Are you saying that if you can't pontificate your religious verses then this site is not valuable?

This site is for all. It is about health and wellbeing specifically for those living with or affected by Lupus and its related illnesses. It is not about Christianity, although there are many who follow the teachings of Christ participating on it.

I suggest you people who are so "saddened" by having your comments removed ask yourself, "What would Jesus do?"

peace love and light

That's great - The Lord (that higher authority we refered to) certainly moves in mysterious ways, as I really genuinely want to thank you JSue for reminding us "What would Jesus do?" Well, I asked that very question and the answer was - "turn the other cheek", which is exactly what I'm doing by providing an alternative for all who wish to be involved. I'm not denying that it is sad that such positive threads were blocked, but if it means that your stress levels are relieved as a result, so be it.

It so happens that "peace, love and light" are all elements that have been discussed on the CALC facebook, which I pray for us all.

;-) Thanx

Unbelievably sad that people are being so nasty and personal on this page, which I had thought was to help , encourage and support each other.

Corrosion profile image

I agree with you suepee. Some people can just be so nasty. It has been noted in literature that a side effect of lupus is anger and it appears this is being exhibited on this forum. It's a shame because this forum was a 'nice' place where people who were in the same boat helped each other and most importantly listened to ALL views!

I hope the administrators are monitoring this situation and take appropriate action to put a stop to such behaviour.

Going2Balright, thank you very much for taking the time to set up the page on facebook.

Hi everyone,

I feel that as administrator for this site I want to clear the air over this situation a little bit, as there do seem to be some negative feelings.

The religious postings themselves weren't reported to me. What was reported generally was the arguments that followed on from them. I felt that it was counter-productive and completely unnecessary for people to be arguing about religious views on a health forum for lupus.

I have no problem with people expressing religious views, but this is not the place for it. I have therefore taken the decision that any exclusively religious posts would be deleted from this forum. This is not discrimination against those of you with religious views. I would just as readily delete posts exclusively on unrelated political issues or classical cars too. This is a forum for lupus patients to get advice and support about their lupus.

It is not a violation of your freedom of speech. You are quite free to discuss your religious views, but I would ask you to do it elsewhere please. I am pleased to see that someone has gone to the efforts of setting up a place for you to do this.

Thank you so much for your comments Paul.

The fact that you took action to remove those rather hurtful provocative comments was appreciated, whilst retaining this thread and not removing it in it's entirety, thus giving the opportunity for those truely interested in the subject matter to access in the facebook site if they so wish.

By the responses it can't be denied that faith is a great support for many people who are suffering (more so that classic cars may I add ;-) ).

Keep up the good work, as this is a really good resource to all who are suffering a plethora physical, mental and practical issues associated with this illness. Thanx!

Go offline for a few days and see what happens!

Hope the site has now settled down again as we all need to be able to air our views and share with one another.

What would a newcomer to the site feel when all they want is that support that we all need.

I have done too much this weekend, my knees are killing me, and I am about to go to a disastrous weigh in at Weightwatchers!

Love and a good day to you all.
