How much alcohol can you drink while taking methotrexate?
Hi there. The straight answer is 'none'. Because we all react in different ways to the methotrexate different people may have different opinions but the only really safe course is to steer clear of alcohol. Sorry.
Hope the mtx works for you although you will have to give it at least three months to see if it is going to. I'm halfway through titrating up to a full dose having started on 7.5mg weekly and aiming for about 15mg weekly as the longer term dose. I'm afraid you may have some days when you feel really nauseous with this drug. I certainly do. I just keep telling myself that it might be worth putting up with the sickness if it works in the long run.
All the best.
Stephen.
Yes, I also was told not to drink any alcohol too.
Have to agree with the above having just had 4 years on methotrexate, allowed myself a glass of fizzy stuff with Christmas dinner, though that's probably not what you want to hear!
Take care, Angela x
Best to ask your doctor/s directly : "How much alcohol can I safely drink on my medications?" and then do as they recommend.
Alcohol is a drug. Challenging your liver/kidney function with alcohol (even just one drink) in addition to enduring Lupus and medications is never recommended.
What is the worst thing that could possibly happen??? Catastrophic systemic failure. Google it. You don't want to go there trust me.
I was recently also told no alcohol. I had my blood tests done but haven't yet started taking it- Not great if you like the odd glass of wine! Take care x
the booklet i got with mine says you should stay well within max limits [2-3 units per day for women and 3-4 units per day for men].
Alcohol and medications are never a good thing. It compromises your health, sometimes with issues that can't be fixed. Make your choice wisely.
