The autoimmune system is not yet fully understood.

Medicine is not as yet an exact science.

The human body holds many mysteries.

Lupus could be considered a bunch of muddled / confused biochem reactions or non reactions pulsing or not pulsing randomly and chaotically convincing the body to fight itself for no good reason.

The body attempts to sort it the best it can ... over reacting under reacting until a balance is found. Sometimes through pharmaceutical intervention. Sometimes through time passing and the body healing itself (the body discovers and acknowledges that there is no need for self-defense as there is no real attacker / invader - the body reboots itself going back to neutral balance). Usually it is a bit of both.

At present there are several main theories:

genetic : hereditary predisposition to autoimmune disorder

environmental : toxic agents / drug (including Rx) poisoning

severe stress emotional induced

severe stress physical induced : surgery / cancer / pregnancy / head injury TBI / severe body injury / another autoimmune disorder pre-existing the cluster of lupus onset

There are certain to be others theories with hypotheses et al; but these listed are considered the main players.

hopefully oneday we will found out, i am convinced my hormones caused the onset at 14 years old(i had a breast disorder) then i belive my pregancy at 18 caused a massive flare and it took 12 years for them to tell me what was making me ill x

hiya i put lupus down to severe stress i have had lupus for over 20 years now very painful every where my stress was losing a baby at 9 months a son of 21 m mum also a sister so i have been throuth quite alot lupus did not run in the family i put it down to emotional stress. keep well as you say one day maybe everyone will understand lupus

I also put mine down to stress / and a bad throat, wasn't sore at all for two week just no voice and sounded really bad, then sore for about 8 hours, Dr said it was a virus !!!!!!!!!!! then various joints stated joining in ankle / shoulder hand s etc. Stress factors over a 6 year period, future son in law died, ( tragic accident ) both me and husband being outed of a business my husband was a partner in. My father in law with caner who we lost after 15 months / My son being involed in an accident where unfortunatly an elderly lady died - result he went to prison for 15 months, then loosing husbands grandmother / aunt / my aunt and friend of ours, husband having to have op on shoulder / then prosate op / there were probably a few other things there as well.

It's only when you see it written down it is quite alot so guess thats why immune system went off the rails.

Sorry to go on, but one of thsoe things that when you start you keep going.

Wow...what a battering you and your family have had! If a vehicle were to go through all that - it would be a write-off!

Hopefully, you will find compassion, understanding, humour, and helpful info on the Blog site - to give you the strength to face each day.

It has been a REAL help to me, as this can be a really isolating condition...only genuine friends seem to have the patience to understand when I'm not able to do things I used to.
