Hi Ebril -I know it's an embarissing topic , but yes this is one of the ever growing list of probs. Bartholin Cyst has flared up a number of times and have had to have emergency op last aug when it turned to an abcess (size of duck egg...painful or what!). Had another op on the oposite side this jan to prevent further and seeing gynie next week again after many courses of anti-biotics. Although not yet diagnosed by a rhuemy with lupus, awaiting appointment to see rhuemy over next couple of months, the gp says have ANA positive and many other indicaters pointing in that direction. Are you on steroids? Just that my gp says i am prone to this, currently on 30mg a day.

I was so shy about saying anything but be brave cos you really don't want it getting to the stage of an emergency....believe you me!

All the best :-)

it was very painful, and will tell my rheumy about it monday when I see her trying to get a doctors appointment is hard but then again my doctors no nothing about Lupus, so waste of time i thought it was just me, thank you will definately discuss this with rheumy xxx

We are all human. Frailties happen. Unfortunately, sometimes things like cysts happen. Please consult your doctor about this when possible.

Home treatment of Bartholin's cysts and abscesses involves sitz baths, which promote drainage. Special sitz bath basins are available, but the simplest method is to sit in the bathtub in a few inches of warm water. The water should not be so hot as to burn the skin but should be fairly warm. These soaks should be done for 10-15 minutes at a time, 3-4 times daily. This treatment is frequently all that is needed for Bartholin's cysts. Abscesses often require drainage by a doctor.
