Sometimes I think stress causes that drunk feeling. Sometimes at work when it's really stressful because I have too much to do and not enough time to do it I become very overwhelmed and start feeling woozy and unsteady on my feet and I get very achy, too. I've never gone to the doc when feeling this way because it's unpredictable and it usually goes away in a day or two.

I'm glad you went to the doc to find out why you're feeling this way. I hope it passes and you start feeling better soon.

Yes, stress is definitely the demon and returning to work is pretty stressful, I have been signed off for two weeks after an episode where I stopped functioning and was told that I actually appeared drunk - am awaiting disciplinary hearing in 25 days.. Take care of yourself and maybe look into some stress relief measures?

I haven't been able to work for 10 years and I get that drunk feeling too. Its awful, and I feel so much for anyone else who sufffers from it.

I feel as though I am walking on a rocky boat or that the ground is uneven, so I end up walking very slowly and look as though I have a drunken swagger. I even get it it when i am perfectly still, all of a sudden the whole room will lurch. As for my speech, well, all my words go topsy tuvy and I can slur my speech too.

Any passer by would think I am totally sloshed even though I am tee total.

So far I haven't found anything that can help, if anyone does please post on here.

Best wishes to all :)

Hi there tired Mum.....it does sound as though you are suffering with something called "positional vertigo" (which comes and goes, but worse if you are bending down frequently - or standing up/sitting down quickly). There is a medication which helps this - Betahistine, and this shouldn't conflict with any other meds you might be taking for Lupus.

I haven't a clue what causes the slurred speech - but on the American Lupus site, there are some interesting theories which you might like to look into....they seem to be way ahead of the UK concerning awareness of the condition, and you can ask questions and receive informative replies.

Hope this helps - perhaps we should all wear the Lupus UK wrist bands and then other folks would not assume we are winos!!!

I too get that drunk feeling and brain fog. I've definitely noticed a link with stress and too much to think about. I'm lucky in that I'm self employed and I work at home, so when I feel that way I just go and lay in bed until it calms down (I call it the quiet dark room treatment!). It seems worse after I took antibiotics 2 weeks ago.. but I'm not sure if they 's a connection -could just be due to the flare I'm having..

I empathise with the problems we have at work in connection with lupus. I had to give up a well paid job doing an administration post that i loved when diagnoised with lupus and started on meds. My solution was to do part time work or temping work as i lived on my own at the time so not working wasn't an option. I get angry sometimes when people do not understand the symptoms of lupus particulary the fatigue which does make you feel as if you have been hit by the preverbial freight train.

Am now lucky to have a partner who understands the condition and getting help this past couple of years from the DWP and DLA has been a great boost. However it was an uphill battle to make them aware of the condition and the limitations it can have on careers/work. I agree the USA are in frount of us on Awarness of the illness lets hope that this continues to improve in tis country.

Hope things at work get better.
