Guys, I've heard a lot of good things on here about La Roche sunscreen. I have greasy skin without sunscreen so am really after one that doesn't make me look even worse
The link below is a fluid so is it OK for us to use? Or should I go for a cream? My thinking is, if it's runny and not thick, it won't do the job as well. Is my thinking correct?
The La Roche-Posay Anthelios Fluid SPF50 50ML use to be available for those with lupus on the NHS prescription. It is a recommended SPF for those with lupus.
I personally use this particular SPF myself, although I do not have lupus, I find it one of the best ones I've used. It dries without leaving any white-cast and is fast-drying. I mix it with my moisturiser so I can spread it more easily over my face and body.

Thank you Chanpreet. I would love the fluid but just realised the fluid is for face only and I don't think my GP is kind enough to prescribe me one for face and another for the body
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Sun Protection Spray SPF 50+ 200ml may be a better option... La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMUNE 400 Hydrating Cream SPF50 50ml is quite small and may not be a suitable size for using on your body unless you buy a few :).
Hi Amakura, SunSense Ultra Lotion SPF 50+ and SunSense Ultra Roll-on SPF 50+ are available on prescription however, some pharmacies are having difficulty sourcing larger bottles from suppliers. If your pharmacy cannot provide you with a large bottle, they can provide you with several smaller ones
I don’t like the fact it has alcohol denat and that it is at the top of the list… also I like to know the uva rating (I go for 5 stars) which this company doesn’t have, presumably because it’s French. The thicker the cream the better too. Also for the face go for a tinted mineral spf.
Thanks Claire. I'll look at the UVA rating for the cream rather than spray. The spray sounds so tempting - especially with being a man (hairy arms and legs 🤭) but will go with the cream. It can't b3 as bad as the uvistat. That stuff is like cement filler.
I use Ultrasun, I find that this is not greasy, they also do a tinted one as well which I use. If you look online there are usually some companies that do discounts on it. M & S sell it but it’s usually full price, if you try it shop around the internet as you will get it cheaper.
My dermatologist prescribed sun cream I hate because it just sits on your skin and I can feel it!! However I have also used ultrasun and it felt fine. I took some of this to Australia in 2019 and my daughter asked me to leave it. Anything the Australians use should give good protection! I have also seen in a trial recently that Asda’s own sun creams came first, much better than more expensive ones. Hope this helps.
On my face, I use Neutrogena ultra-sheer dry touch sunscreen at factor 70 (used to be 100 but that one has been discontinued - I think because of toxicity to the environment). It is not especially cheap but it stays put and is non-irritating. I have not found one I like better - most sunscreens make my eyes smart and provoke a skin rash. I spend a lot of time in water and recommend a long sleeved UV50 protective rash vest for body!
I use the Heliocare gel oil free factor 50 as I have oily skin and it’s fabulous. They have a factor 100 now and do a tinted version which I like to cover up patches on skin. There is a clear spray factor 50 which is easy if you are away in the summer great coverage. Highly recommend them. I do put Nivea light on underneath as that’s what I have always done as it’s a simple perfume less light easy cream. It sorted my skin out.
It has been difficult to get LaRoche, according to my pharmacist. So, I have resorted to buying other 50+.... I have been using real coconut oil on my skin and hair, as its more holistic and not pumped with chemicals. However, I am aware how greasy and messy coconut oil can be. Sorry, my response hasn't been too helpful 🤔
La Roche-Posay was the only brand my NHS hospital dermatologist would recommend for sun protection . UVB protection is as important as UVA. Which I did little about til my beautician mentioned her daughter had very bad eczema and this brand was brilliant for her issue. She was raving about it! I have many allergies and have had no problems using this brand. La Roche-Posay offer a free zoom consultation which I took up. Access online via the website. I was a little reticent at first. She was very clinically well qualified not sales orientated at all. This way I got the right product for me. They offer lots of samples and discounts online. I now use one of their daily moisturisers that no other brand
has perfectly satisfied me and its much cheaper! They offer products for greasy skin My experience with them and their products has been very good. Hope this helps.
I use a roll on one and can get them from: Aldi, Asda or Tesco. They are also 5 star which a nurse at the hospital I attend recommended that 5 star rating and factor 50 for people with lupus. I don’t have a problem with the roll ins and find them much easy to apply.
I did get sunsense at one time on prescription but it had 4 stars so haven’t had any for sometime now.

ANA negative but tested positive for LA and smooth muscle antibodies 
not a lupus question but scared !
