I know I’ve read it somewhere foggy brain sorry! but how do you know which vaccine you’re meant to have? I’ve just had a text this morning inviting me to book mine? I’ve got severe allergic reaction to penicillin? Can anybody point me in the right direction or any advice? 🙂

I believe it is now decided that penicillin allergy isn't necessarily a contraindication for any of the vaccines available in the UK. However - as far as I know you have an interview before getting the vaccine with questions about medical background before being sent to a doctor if there are any queries.

anaphylaxis.org.uk/covid-19...

The first FAQ relates to penicillin.

Yes Very true, I had a Fairy Detailed 'interview' before mine. I had the Pfizer Vaccine though, whether that 'matters'- or not- I don't know.

Thank you so much for the speedy replies really appreciated.

That’s interesting to know about the link.

I think I’ve read so much it’s all now swimming around in my mind but not in a great order!

I've got an allergy to flucloxacillin n I had the Oxford vaccine a couple of weeks ago. As others have said they do ask u before u have it if you've got any allergies.

Good luck 🤗🍀🌈😽😽xx

Hi BeeHoneyB,

We published an in-depth article about lupus and the COVID-19 vaccines, you can read this at lupusuk.org.uk/covid19-vacc...

Allergy to penicillins is not a contraindication to the Pfizer/BioNTech or AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine or Moderna vaccine which are all approved for use in the UK.

Best wishes,

Chanpreet

Thank you Chanpreet for the link and the reply. I will read it for sure. I think I’ve read so much it’s all gone hazy now with my brain fog!

Best wishes and stay safe.

The very easy answer I give is that the right vaccine for you is the one they stick in your arm ;) I think Tim Spector of the ZOE study said it to this week ;)

If there is a medical question you are handed to a doctor - as I said in my first reply. It is up to you to provide the information triggering a referral to a medically qualified member of staff.

My brother in law is allergic to penicillin too.. he was concerned pre his jab. He had the Oxford one .. he had a detailed interview beforehand - the nurse said either vaccines would be suitable for him. There are lots of centres where I live that are administering the vaccines and according to friends there are medically qualified professionals at all the centres.

The process is not rushed and you have the opportunity to ask questions as they do you.

Good luck, stay well x

I had Oxford Zeneca vaccine last Thursday and yes I had a questionnaire filled too. But before you are given the jab they went through medical history. I actually suffer from Steven Johnson syndrome (allergic to all anti inflammatory and antibiotics meds) so was very worried about any reaction I might have after the jab.

They did reassure me, one thing I will stress is you might get flare up like I did and just have to ride it out. Other then that I was and am fine.

Hope this helps x

They tell u which ur getting when they r about to give u it. I’ve just had mine last Thursday and it’s knocked me for six. I’m still suffering the after effects from it.

Sorry to hear you’re suffering. I hope you feel better soon.

Ive just been speaking to a friend whose a Occupational Therapist shes also been suffering after her vaccine and said half her team, and other colleagues also felt rubbish after the Pfizer.

She said it seemed like people who suffered with the first vaccination were ok with second or if they were ok with the first felt rubbish with the second dose of either of the two vaccines. But wanted to stress!! everybody responds differently but that was her experience and that of her colleagues.
