Hi all, do any of you follow any if the Whals Diets for your autoimmune? I have Lupus and had my first flare a year ago since then I have been on daily tablets and have had a couple more flares all ending up in hospital. Just thinking there has to be a better way...?

Hi no I don’t follow Whals diet but I eat extremely healthy, I eat everything that I can organic , ie organic milk, butter, eggs , I eat a lot of fish not farmed wild whenever I can get it, organic chicken , lots of vegetables - I limit my sugar intake and don’t eat beans of any kind - also most importantly I have been taking for last year organic bone broth which I’ve found to have eased my symptoms, you can make your own or I get it from eBay or Amazon. Good luck with everything xx

I just eat a sensible common sense diet . Basically I don't each junk and processed food and make it balanced. Works for me. And when possible I choose organic.

I’ve not heard of the wahls diet but I will check it out. Does anyone find that certain foods flare your lupus? Which foods are you finding are triggers? I’m interested as lately I’ve noticed that when I eat sugar I feel absolutely drained and quite sick. Also might be a coincidence but I ate lentils and my stomach seemed to struggle digesting them.Sugar has always been my only vice really but I definitely can’t tolerate it the way

Sorry to reply so late, found this by accident! Lentils can be problematic due to lectins, or lack of digestive enzymes. Some suggest not eating them (or not too often) if you already have digestive issues (IBS etc) and they are generally not recommended on anti-inflammatory/autoimmune type diets. Sugar has definitely been my vice for years so I sympathise, but as you are having significant reactions it would perhaps be worth checking your blood sugar. Quite small imbalances (pre pre-diabetes even) are linked by some to brain degeneration, dysautonomia and autoimmunity, as well as the neuropathies. I've just started reading Datis Kharrazian's epic book 'Why Isn't My Brain Working' (for which read, why isn't my gut/body/nervous system working) and personally I think everyone should read it! His thyroid book also talks of the impossibility of resolving a thyroid issue (either actual disease of thyroid itself or low function due to other causes) without fixing any blood sugar problem.

I don't have lupus (other autoimmunity) but did find the autoimmune diet very helpful. Gluten (all grains) and dairy turned out to have been underlying long-standing 'triggering' intolerances for me personally. Best wishes.

PS forgot to say, looks like we are close by. I went to Kellgren too. Hope if you went, they were helpful!

Hi Teanau22

Thank you for this just had a look and lots of scrummy 😋 receipes (especially the fudge) !

I was surprised to see blueberries and avocado as I thought they were histamine producing foods (despite having health benefits )

Just out of interest can you eat garlic ? My face flares up really bad even after just a pot of hummus !

I guess we’re individual 😊xx

Ps: svfarmer well impressed with your bone broth . I tried to make it once and even Tiggy wouldn’t touch it ! Cooking not my strong point 😉

I dont seem to have issues with Garlic or any foods, but wonder how well I'd feel if I started down this road and just wondered if anyone else was following it. I have now looked at bone broth and will get some to see if this helps, just the thought of it turns me off 😂

I boiled the bones and left it over night and I’m guessing that’s an hour of my life I’ll never get back 🤣🤣🤣. Online order all the way 😁

HiI follow autoimmune paleo diet, no grains, dairy, sugar( I use honey instead) no processed food and I take bone broth regularly. Also fermented food are very good. I find it has made a difference. I have heard of the whal diet, but not looked in to it. I guess it’s the same diet as the one I follow?
