How do you cope or manage loss of hair?

Hi, for quite a long time now my hair has been falling out. It isn’t coming out in clumps just here & there. I’m sure that being menopausal doesn’t help either. It’s quite long at the moment so I think that maybe why I’m noticing it more but it’s got to the point that it’s on clothes & furniture worse than dog’s hair!

I’d be grateful if anyone has any suggestions on what I can do or use to help.

Hi there

Same problem but exacerbated by medication ( (Mycophenolate) which has recently been changed.

I tend to use thickening shampoos and conditioners and take 5 mg folic acid daily.

Someone suggested Collagen tablets but haven’t tried these yet.

Thanks, my hair still looks thick as it’s quite curly but this makes it worse as people don’t seem to understand my problem.

My rheumatologist suggested collagen tablets too but I’m not sure which to try. I know there’s supplements for hair, skin & nails that I may try as my nails are weak & split easily too.

Hope collagen helps you too x

Hi, I have had loads of problems with hair loss over the years. It’s very upsetting so my heart goes out to you.

There are a numbered things you can do however:

First, don’t try to keep the length and straggly bits - it only makes it look more obvious. I’ve tried and it is the worst option.

Secondly, do have your hair blunt cut to a length that suits - perhaps chin length temporarily? This will make it look thicker and make you feel a little better.

Thirdly, Buy L’Oréal magic retouch touch up SPRAY. You can apply this to the scalp and hair to fill in gaps. There are many make up products on the market so if that doesn’t suit let me know and I can help further.

Fourthly, lighter shades of hair will not show up bald patches as much so if it suits you you could consider going lighter?

I suggest a collagen product as well - just as others have - best taken as a supplement as long as it doesn’t interfere with meds obvs !

Hope this helps

Hi, many thanks for replying and your suggestions.

I think it is more obvious as it is past my shoulders. It is quite light colour at the moment too.

The frustrating part is that as it’s curly/wavy hair, so it looks like I have a lot of it.

Is there a collagen product that you would recommend? I’ve been looking and mind blown at the different products.

I have started to leave hairs attached to my husbands beard!!! 🥺

Hi Moomin,

I’ve had the same problems with hair loss, tried everything, shampoos And conditioners to no avail 😟 What worked for me was Biotin and folic acid supplements. It did take around 3/4 months to notice a difference though but worth the wait! Hope you find what suits you and things get better. Take good care. Stay positive 👍🏻
