Hi everyone, I’m still in the process of being diagnosed with Lupus but my consultant is thinking it definitely is some sort of connective tissue problem. This week my joints have flared up a bit but I’m experiencing a severe tender patch on the side of my neck - base of skull. It’s incredibly painful. I’m on low dose aspirin as I’ve just found out I’ve got Antiphospholipid antibodies so I can’t take ibuprofen at the moment. The pain is very very tender to touch and radiating into my jaw and head. Is this something anyone else has experienced at all?Normally, my pain is in hands and feet not neck.
Many thanks

Have you tried applying heat? I have had painful muscles in my neck during a lupus flare which would radiate down to my shoulders and i found applying head pads really helped. I also have one of those travel cushions for when i have any neck pain, just to get a bit comfier and feel a bit supported. I usually take cocodamol or get codeine from the doctor for this type of pain as nothing else seems to help mine. Sorry I dont have any advice for the jaw, i have had this as well and other than pain killers there wasn't much else i could do.
Keep us updated with your diagnosis, i know it can be stressful and feel like it takes forever to get some answers.
Hi, like you I have always got shoulder problems but have recently had awful stiffness and pain in my neck. I tried physio but nothing helped and in the end I had acupuncture which did the job. I think with Lupus you just have to give everything a go, including the heat pads (which are great). On Friday I had a steroid injection into my shoulder which I know will only give me short term relief but as I say, you just need to try everything. Good luck and don’t give up x
Hi I’ve had this extremely painful in the past and nothing touched it . GP prescribed Gabapentin for nerve pain but didn’t help.
I have it again now - started 2 days ago same as you , base of skull left side, into neck and scapula.
Some mentioned acupuncture- I’m intrigued with trying this.
